Hi, Im new here.

Ive been struggling with weight recently, Im up to 218lbs, im only 5'8.

I'm trying to eat 1000 calories a day, or less, and I burn 600 calories each day in the gym.

Is this a good plan, and how quick will I start seeing results? Thanks.

1000 does seem low. I would use a calorie calculator to see how many calories per day you should be taking in...

this is not a good plan... not by a long shot.

do some reading around this forum, especially the stickied threads in nutriton and weight loss thru exercise, for some pointers on how many calories you should be consuming in a day.. . the exercise stickies will give youo some idea of what you should be doing at the gym to be effective, the nutrition threads will give you an idea of what yo oshould be eating.

1000 cals per day is too low. Keep in mind that not only do you burn calories at the gym but also during the course of the day and even when you sleep. What are you doing as part of your exercise program?

Also, those calculators I have found are not too accurate.

Especially, for women. How long have you been on 1000?
How much exercise are you doing per week and what types/duration.

What are you eating on a daily basis.

Sounds like you hit a plateau...you don't want to stay on these low calories as you will eventually develop a slower metabolism and your body starts to produce an enzyme called LPL..which slows the metabolic rate down. Most women that I have seen that lose weight on really low calorie diets always gain in back and then some. Slow and steady wins the raise, and at your current weight you can lose about 1-2 lbs per week safely.

The key is to get your metabolism going so that when you get to your goal it isn't suppressed.

I keep hearing about metabolism, but how exactly do I increase its efficiency?

You can do so by increasing your food intake and putting on lean muscle.

Most people when they diet to lose fat/weight do not do it properly..they start their calories too low, which makes their metabolism slower.

When I set up programs for women I always put calories on the higher end and as a result their bodies don't rebound nor does their metabolism slow down.

Hello Star_Ruler, I think you may have a similar problem to what I had. I cut out the junk food from my diet and felt content with what I was eating and then realized it was only around 600-800 calories!:eek2:

I just did not feel hungry but realized that I did need to eat more of course. So in between meals I slip in yogurt (love grapefruit especially!), fruit, veggies, tofu, any little snacks that are healthy just to boost those calories up.

Thanks Guys. I am now increasing my calorie intake and once i eat i immediately go do heavy exercise. I also eat healthy snacks and take long walks after my exercises (for about 3miles), to and back. Thats about 6 miles. This is the best I can do, Im trying to eat as healthy as possible now and increase my metabolism. My calorie intake is now about 1800-2000 in a day. Thanks for all the replies and help.
