Hello!!!!!

This drug hasn't yet been approved by the FDA in the US - and based on what I've read of the side effects - I'm not sure I'd ever want to take it.

I've read that it's also used for smoking cessation as well..

Just curious as to what made you decide to take it? How many pounds do you want to lose?

Please pay attention to your body and your emotions and notify your doctor immediately of anything outside your normal behavior.

I've never heard of it and I am in the UK .. unless it's what is known as Zyban in other parts of the world. Is it that one that is also an anti depressant or am I getting confused here?

Sanofi-Synthelabo, a French Pharmaceutical Company created Rimonabant (Acomplia® and possibly Zimulti) which is a new drug treatment for obesity and possibly other ailments. This diet pill was officially approved in Britain on June 28th 2006. It has also be approved in several other European countries and other countries around the world. Which could someday lead the way to having the FDA approve it for the United States. But no guarantees, The FDA has strick policies regarding new medications on the market. And it recently did not approve it for the USA.

Acomplia (Rimonabant or Zimulti) diet pills offer hope for obese individuals. Especially where other treatments had little affect or whose side effects where too much to handle. This medication (as any) obviously does not come without some potential side effects for its user but could offer more that others. Rimonabant works differently than other weightloss pills, and has other potential benefits than any other diet drug. Studies also show that it increases levels of HDL (good cholesterol) while at the same time reducing the triglycerides (bad cholesterol). It could also possibly be used as a smoking cessation although not officially approved as one (yet).

Some of the side effects included: depression, irritability, and nausea.

i have just started too

Hiya

my GP has just prescribed Acomplia
He says I am the first in the county and he has used his descretion to prescribe it
I have been taking it 4 days
Previously I have taken Orlistat (Xenical) and until last week was using Reductil - i have lost just over a stone on Reductil but it has taken over 4 months and I have eaten practically nothing.
I have had weight issues all my life - first diet club aged 14
You name the diet I have proably tried it:
Weightwatchers, Slimming world, Slimming magazine, Rosemary Conley, Atkins (gave me gall stones) F plan, GI diet, South Beach, Cambridge diet, Lighter Life, cabbage soup diet etc to name but a few
I do not eat much and never have done - cant stand fatty food - always eat healthily- I have slim arms and legs but a rounded belly - endomorph shape I believe - have always excercised, swam, danced, aerobics, gym etc but nothing has been effective.
Would be really interested in chatting to you and others about Acomplia and its effects and seeing if you are losing weight on it
I have noticed a couple of side effects - going to the loo more urgently - if you get my drift and also I am more snappy than usual

hows it going now any weight loss? i totally sympathise i hardly eat anything yet the weight keeps going on, ive been tested for hypothyroidism but it was normal i hate being like this and would happily try this, i have 7 stone to loose in all good luck and think positive you can do this xx

Take heart ladies, if you are eating less than you are burning, you will lose weight. Don't give up. Have you read some of the gems in WLF On Topic? I think of measuring my loss over the month, not week to week.

I don't know anything about medical conditions you might have, but my obesity (I was 220) was caused partially by medications I took for bipolar. My doctor tried me on Orlistat and it wasn't fun.

I finally realized, with the help of a writing exercise, that no one could do this for me, that i didn't want to stay fat, and with the support I found on WLF it totally got me over the hump of the first few months of weight loss when there is so much angst and wondering "WHEN" am I going to lose weight?

Make the changes and get out of your own way. If you make the changes, you will be fulfilled in time.

I hope you enjoy WLF.

Also what helped me was getting real about exactly how much I eat in a day, and learning about maintenance calories. I can help you with that if you pm me.

Is there a waiting period?

I just started with Acomplia. As a matter of fact this is only my second day. I took 20 mg yesterday and 20 mg this morning. I have experienced absolutely no loss of appetite. Quite the contrary. I seem to want to eat more. I thought this was an appetite suppressant. Is there a period of days that you have to wait before it begins to take affect? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

VBI
