Hi, my name is Fred, and i hail from Liverpool in England. i have joined on here in the hope of getting some support and ideas as i try and get rid of a few excess pounds. i say a few, but its probably closer to 200 i need to shift. i started out at 405, and have now got down to 390, so i'm at least headed in the right direction.

i'm 30 years old, and am essentially just fed up with being fat. i'm a happy enough soul though, i have a great girlfriend, a great job and a great circle of friends, but i'm just needing to meet a few people who are in the same boat as myself.

2 weeks ago i joined a gym. i think that the hardest part was actually joining, it was finally admitting to myself that i have a problem with my weight.

the gym i started in has a swimming pool, and thats were i have been doing the most excerise at the minute. getting into the pool that first time was the worst feeling in the world, but i thought to myself, well, people might see a fat bloke, but they'll see a fat bloke making an effort to lose the weight. i suppose i'd rather be fat in a gym than fat eating in a restaurant!!

so the swimming has been going well, but its not the only change i have made. i'm not going on a diet as such, i'm changing my lifestyle. i'm not counting calories, i'm eating three regular and proper meals a day and excerising. i'm not snacking any more and i'm trying to eat fruit. i'm just going to try and do and eat what thin people do and eat.

i'm not fat because of some medical condition, i'm fat because i ate too much and didnt exercise. so thats changed, i've lost 15 pounds in 15 days, and i'm going to go for it, i owe it to myself to do this, and i've set myself a goal of 210 pounds.

so thats me in a nut shell, so hopefully i will get some encouragement fromhere, some ideas, but most of all make some new friends in a similar situation as me, and have a laugh.

Fred

Welcome aboard man.

You'll get all the support you need here.

Also check out Ironman's 235lbs lost topic and JeremyRice's journal.

Both highly motivational topics as these guys have lost tons of unwanted weight.

Fred...Welcome to the forum.

Great to see that you have made the plunge into the gym. I am going to do that soon myself.

Coming into this forum is one of the best things I have done in my life, and the best thing I have done all year. Not only the ridiculous amount of support that I have received from friends like CrunkChipmunk, T2Trucker and Jeremy, but just the fact that these guys are like me too. We are all in the same boat and have had a lot of the same experiences. I recommend that you start a Journal/Diary. It's a great way to track your progress and get support.
