Hello! (yet another newbie)

When it comes to online forums, I'm usually more of a lurker. However, this time I think I will stop and introduce myself.

Hello, everyone!

...

Oh, you wanted more than that? ;)

My name is Lori and I just turned 30 a few months ago. I'm married but have no children. I work in the tech industry and have a pathetically inactive lifestyle, in part because my job/hobbies are so sedentary and in part because of my weight. (Sometimes I wonder if I'm lazy because I'm overweight or overweight because I'm lazy... it's probably some combination of the two.)

I've struggled with obesity my entire life. Even when I was very physically active in school (I was on the dance team in high school and we did aerobic workouts and dance practice 5 days a week) and eating right to try and slim down I didn't lose much weight. As an adult, I've always avoided fad diets but even my well thought out attempts to eat better and get more (or SOME) exercise haven't gone well and I always seem to lose my motivation after a few weeks or months with no results.

Currently, I'm around 320 lbs at 5'6" and I'm starting to feel desperate to make a change. I've been experiencing more and more discomfort--physically and emotionally--that I know is related to my weight, so I really want to drop some weight so I can feel better in general. I'm hoping that folks here will give me the inspiration, advice and encouragement I need to make my weight loss dream a reality.

I'll be starting a diary soon, and I'm working on setting some goals. Right now I'm just sort of trolling the forum and doing general research on 'starter' exercises for the obese. I think part of my problem in the past was a general inability to 'keep up' with what I was trying to do, and some things were just plain painful (such as pretty much anything involving sitting/lying on the floor).

I guess that's all for now, I've been pretty verbose as it is. Anyway... thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know the regulars.

Welcome to the boards!

Before starting any exercises, I would check with a doctor first, just to be safe. Also, remember to start off small and build on. Find something realistic and doable that you can build on.
