Hello everyone:

I would like to know that I am on the right track and not wasting my time. I would go into full detail on my situation but it will take all day to read so I will cut to the chase. I am a 28 yr old female 138 lbs 5'1''. A little over a year ago I was about 118 lbs and I need to lose 20 lbs to reach my goal, either that or tone the fat into muscle regardless of how much I weight. My arms and legs and shoulders are all muscle. My midsection however has become a problem. Since Monday I have kicked my plan into high gear. My BMR is around 1400...I need around 2200 calories to maintain my weight. I have cut my calories to about 1500-1600 per day. eating wheat english muffins...egg whites..salads...tuna...protein shakes...steak tips...veggies...a sandwich on wheat bread (no fast food, no junk food, no soda). I have been eating every few hours, taking CLA and fish oil supplements. I have gone to the gym everyday burning at least 500 calories on an elliptical, about 35-40 minutes a day as well as weight training. I have a pretty physically active job at UPS as well. Does it appear I am doing this productively and if so, what do you think my results will look like?

thanks and good luck to all :)

Amy

It looks pretty good to me, except I don't know anything about the CLA.

Be prepared to adjust your calories as necessary. Those calculations are only good for a first estimate, and sometimes have to be tweaked based on real world results.

Hey, pretty impressive. You sound quite knowledgeable too. One thing to remember though, your BMR will fluctuate as your diet kicks in. As Harold says, tweaks here and there will be required. Incidentally, you can't turn fat into muscle! You can however get rid of subcutaneous fat leave a very toned, ripped effect through good diet and exercise. Good luck to you.
Regards..........Dave

Thank you...I did know that once I begin to lose weight I need to recalculate. So far Im down two pounds. Not sure if thats enough to need to tweak or not but maybe. I would like to get a heart rate monitor so I know exactly what I am burning on a daily basis and then can be more accurate. Do you know if those are a good idea or not? I have a very active job at UPS but I really have no idea how much that contributes to my calories burned and think that would help alot. I have done alot of research because I really dont like wasting my own time and want to get this done the right way :) And yes I guess I worded that wrong..about turning fat into muscle. I meant since muscle weighs more than fat even if the pounds aren't dropping off the scale doesn't mean I havent changed my body...correct?

Thank you and I hope to post some good results soon!

Hi Ness.
You come over as a very single minded, strong willed person.....that's great. Just the sort of determination required to see the job through! Any physical work will certainly help in burning cals. equally, a weight drop of 2-3 pounds per week is great. it's the "healthy loss zone" that I preach to my clients. HRMs are great and some of them are very accurate. Just a tip here.....the one thing you can ALWAYS rely on as an accurate guide to body change is your clothes. Mirrors can reflect your mood, scales can vary depending upon time used but clothing NEVER lies.
Keep us posted and keep at it.
Best wishes.........Dave
