Hey everybody,

I just started going back to the gym last month. I took the entire month of December and January off. Softball season is around the corner so i'm trying to get back into playing shape and conditioning. Summer is also coming close, so I need to be looking good not just for others, but for myself most importantley. I'm also a beach bum during the summer time, so its only right that I look good on the beach.

Anyways, I had my annual physical at my job and the results were that i have about 19% body fat and the ideal range for is around 17%.

Lets see, I'm 30 years old and I'm about 5'8" and weight 151 pounds. The doctor told me that my target weight should be around 143.

To me, thats almost outrageous. I'm pretty slim now, with the exception of my beer gut. But to drop another 7 to 8 pounds doesn't even sound healty. Granted, I could probably drop 2 pound in water retention. But I don't think I have that much fat to burn up. It would be awsome for my 6 pack, but it just sound way to light for a 30 year old to weigh.

Anyways, I'd like to see what my body would look like at 147. I've been doing tons of cardio, 3 times a week, about 3.8 miles a session. Then after that I work out for about 45 minutes to an hour.

I've also attempted to regulate by diet and consume about 6 light meals a day. I also up'ed my water intake to about 8 (1pt) bottles a day.

Yet I gained 2 to three pounds, rather than lose weight. I'm thinking its the muscle mass thats making me weight heavier, because I can see the beer gut slowly going away.

Anyways, I know a couple of pounds doesn't sound like a lot, but for someone that's already slim it is pretty significant.

What can I do drop down about 5 pound, other than the obvious of course. because I seem to be gaining weight.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.

you should stop concentrating on the number 143 and concentrate on how you look and feel instead, regardless of what the doctor said. you could easily lose those 8 lbs with cutting back on the calories you eat...but you might look too thin. if you're eating right and exercising as you say you are, then you are probably gaining muscle, which isn't a bad thing.
