hello to all

hello everyone,

my name is bryan, i'm 32, and i currently live in texas.

i'm here to learn everything i can about exercising and fitness in general.

i'm not a very active person, which is exactly what i want to change.

i have a question that i hope someone can answer:

i just started a walking routine a few weeks ago. 3 times per week, it's a brisk walk for about 2 miles. i've thrown in a bit of jogging too. 30-45 second shots. the whole walk takes roughtly 30 minutes. i just noticed a couple days ago that my shins have become sore, even tender to the touch. is this just my body still adjusting to the workout, or something more serious i should look into? has anyone else encountered this?

Welcome. Shin splints perhaps?

Hello Bryan,

I would suggest that it's just your body getting adjusted and used to the physical workload. However, I would still see my physician and check it out just to be on the safer side. I hope this helps and welcome to the forum!

welcome to the forum.

what part of texas?

My shins still hurt every now and then when i actually run.. i think its because i dont do it often but i agree with the others, it could be shin splints, but it would be a good idea to get it checked out.. if it continues

lostparrot, ~lv~, nae82, fitlatino8, thanks for the nice welcome.

nae82, i currently live in laredo. been here about 5 years, but am originally from arizona.

i had to look up what shin splints actually were. never heard of it until it was mentioned.

according to the information i read, i stopped my walking and jogging for a week or so, to see if the pain would subside..which did seem to ease up. i noticed that my posture wasn't right (i was hunching forward), and also that i seemed to be locking up my ankles/feet when i jogged. now i am conciously trying to let my feet move more freely.

i started up my routine again last night.

if the pain does get worse, i will definitely set up a visit to see someone about it. would a general physician be ok, or a fitness specialist? insurance is an issue, so my options are limited.

bryan
