Hello, time for change.

Hey!

A little about me;

My name's Silence, it's not my real name but i have been nick named it for approximately 4 year's, so it's kind of stuck with me. I started off a rather skinny and thin child until around the age of about 12. At 12 i got my first computer, and with it i collected a few of the RPG-MMO games, and later on some of the other various ones. I will pull two major ones out in a minute which contributed to my childhood pretty much being ruined. Anyway, my addiction to these games had a huge impact on my life starting from the age of 12 all the way until now, 19. I never socialized, i ate all the wrong foods and became fat, depressed and the most shocking and un-nerving of all, suicidal. Hearing the words fat, ugly, obese makes my skin crawl. My self-esteem hit rock-bottom and my confidence level's are nullified. I've tried once before to make the change, to make a big impact on my life but failed due to so many uncaring faces, the ones that i thought would be cheering me on but actually made it as a personal joke between them which caused me to stop completely. I know i should do it for myself, but sometimes your heart's not in the right place and your minds giving you the wrong sense of direction.

The two games i'd suggest every single person to really steer clear from would be;

Diablo II & also the new Diablo III that will soon be out.

World of Warcraft (This is the most evilest game i have ever, ever seen. I highly recommend dropping the game, unless you have your play style and hours on a strict routine)

What i would like to achieve or to put it simply, the dream i have been dreaming for many years.

To be thin. That's all i ask myself, it's all i pray for, and it's all i think about. I've realized how far my life has slipped away living in those games, and the evil that is has actually done me over the years. But now i have to change, i am currently 19 year's old and hitting around 19-21st. It's very hard dealing with it, just seeing the number there makes me un-easy.

To be honest, i haven't really got a sense of direction to where to go, who to ask or anything like that really. It's very hard for me to ask my parents or brothers because they too are unaware of their jokes and what they actually cause me to think. I've looked on many forums but never really had the motivation at the time, but now i have and i am here, begging for help.

I'm a very, very shy person. I'd prefer not to go running outside, but i do on the other hand have a treadmill and also a cycling machine in the garage which i could use to be able to be thin once more.

So, to sum this up i'm generally asking what many others before and after me are to. How? I mean, it's hard for me to run for a few minutes, but should i be continuing to run, should i stop, should i begin to walk instead?

I have no idea how i should be exercising, how long for and if i should be running for more than i can, until i get the "stich" - How many times a day, should i have a rest day? etc.

I thank you for reading this, and i'm sorry if it seems like a gigantic wall of text. :)

Feel free to PM me anytime you feel like, i will be checking this continuously throughout the days and nights for information. Thanks again.

- Silence.

I have more time now it seems. I applied for two jobs and they didn't think i fit in with their requirements, so i guess my weight its becoming my main priority now. Does anyone have any information, i'll be awaiting for you're replies.

(Did i even post the main post in the right section?) :)

AHello, how r u?
I felt quite upset when I read ur diary and am so sorry that ur weight has made u feel so down.
On the plus side though...you've came here, you've taken the 1st step to changing ur life style and we're all here to help you.
Jokes can b cruel, people r so ignorant and don't realise what they're doing or saying...but ur not like that your a better person than they r and u just need to rise above it and show them that ur making changes and the results will show and the jokes will eventually stop.

I did a bit of running on a treadmill last yr and followed a running plan. There's tons on the net...you'll find one that suits and they will tell u when to have a rest day. Eventually tho I just ran until I needed to stop. I picked a distance and ran it and when I needed to walk a little I did. Running is an excellent way to increase fitness quickly. At first I couldn't run for more than a min but quickly built up to my pb which was 17min, but my gym shut down and I didn't keep at it so I'll b right back at the start lol. But you'll find ur own way. You.may also find that the plans will incorporate an alternative work out for one of the days and this can b a day for ur bike.
If u want tho you can start off with some walking before building up to a jog.

You should start a diary here. Log onto it everyday and log ur activities, what you've eaten that day and how u feel.
Once we see what u eat/dont eat we can help u with ur diet.

Chin up chick...you'll see results in no time.

Hope to see some updates from u soon x

Hello Ski, and yes i'm fine at the moment :)

- Thanks for the advice, and i believe i did the right thing also, but it's now strictly for me and how i want to see myself. I've read you're post several times and come to the conclusion that yes, the first way would be to create a diary on this forum; but i'm unsure what it is i should exactly be documenting in the diary. I've been searching for a plan to stick to but haven't really found one yet, are the a list of guides/diets to follow?

Hi Silence, welcome!

As ski bunny said, you've taken the right first step by asking for help. I have 2 people in my life that either currently have, or have had an addiction to World of Warcraft.... and they've ended up in a pretty similar situation as you. Ironically, the one who has overcome the addiction lost the weight initially by playing another video game - on the Wii (I believe it was EA Active or something like that). He worked out for 30 mins every day and lost 30 lbs initially, then started to add other activities that he used to enjoy like basketball and working out at the gym. He also started taking my advice and making changes to his overall diet - one small change at a time. I think he's lost around 60-70 lbs and has kept it off for over a year now (and has never gone back to playing W.O.W.).

There isn't a particular diet that most would recommend on here, we tend to advocate lifestyle changes, rather than short term dieting strategies. The way I normally encourage my clients to eat is by thinking 'low glycemic index.' There are some great books by Rick Gallop on the subject. I find that these books help to understand how we 'should' be eating - minimal processed foods, and lots of veggies, fruit, lean protein, and minimally-processed carbohydrates.

Another strategy is to think of the food plate (http://www.choosemyplate.gov/) and try to arrange your main meals with these proportions (using an 8-inch diameter plate). Most people are heavy on the starches and proteins, which tend to be calorie-dense, and light on the veggies and fruit, which tend to be naturally lower in calories.

I would recommend taking a look around the forum, especially at the sticky threads at the top of each forum section. These will give you some information to get you started. If you haven't found the diary section yet, you can find it here: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/f/9/weight-loss-diary. As for what to document... you can document whatever you prefer.

If you do start a diary, post the link or the name of the diary here, so we can follow it :)

Hey there Silence, i can see where you are coming from. I myself was really addicted to MMORPGs for the last 10 years, i can see myself a little bit in your story. Anyway, you've taken the first step by coming on this forum and sharing your story. I would recommend you do things slowly, i myself have stoped gaming and trying to get healthy quite a few time in the last years but always failed because i changed too many things at one, going too drasticly. First thing i would do is stop gaming completely if you're having problem to control yourself, then you can work on changing what you're eating then incorporate some exercise.

If you want you could read my introduction post wich i posted almost a year ago(my forum birthday will be on sep. 27th) and maybe find a little inspiration : http://weight-loss.fitness.com/t/43722/hi-everyone-a-little-about-me , here's the link if you want to check it out.

Just remember that it's a long process, but as you start and get going you will see results pretty and hopefuly you'll feel proud about yourself and it'll keep you going.

Good luck and feel free to msg me if you ever need to talk or if you want some advice. Good luck !

Cheers !
