Hey everyone! I'm a 27 year old male, about 175, 5'11. I was raised on homecookin' and then when my parents started a business, I was basically put on a fast food diet or otherwise was unsupervised in my eating. To top it all off, I always hated physical activity because I was a bit of a creative. For the last 5 years, I've made serious strides to be a healthier individual, but I'm having trouble with the last 20 or so pounds. Here's a the low down on my approach to my weight:
-Vegan diet (done the right way, mixing my protein sources, getting lots of fresh produce, very little to no processed foods, taking multivitamins to supplement my nutrition, supplementing my protein--at least while I'm doing weight lifting--, etc)
-Juice pretty much daily
-I eat very good foods and pay attention to what I put into my body...maybe just not how much or how often I do it.
-Exercise, realistically, 4-5 days a week on average (start with about 20 minutes of weight training then 10 minutes of cardio; each day focuses on a different muscle group>>arms, chest, back, legs)--it's a simple routine, but it's thorough
-Limit caloric intake during the week to around 1500 calories
The problem? I can't lose my stubborn belly fat. I have love handles that will not go away and a soft, jelly-like gut.
Why I think I fail at losing weight:
-"Secret Calories" -- eating when no one is around to see it. Basically, I say "I'll eat 1500 calories or less today" and then after I've done that, dinner is over, and everyone is bed, I grab a piece of seitan, a spoon of peanut butter, etc. I'm guessing I consume an extra 200-500 calories per day doing this. It's not every day, but it happens often
-Indulging on the off days. Wow, do I know how to do this. Friday rolls around and I say "god, this week sucked...I'm having a beer." And then I say to myself and my girlfriend "well, I already had a beer, let's go get some soy ice cream!" And it all goes downhill. Then saturday, well saturday, I can't waste a day that I could cook a delicious meal! And sunday is supposed to be my off day for going to the gym, which my stupid brain thinks of as "day off of healthy eating, too!"
I need some support from the forum here. Help on how to curb these habits and help on my exercise regimen.
I look forward to meeting people, hearing experiences, and helping out if I can!
Thanks for having me
