My name is Katie, and I am 29. To make a long story as short as possible, I have struggled with my weight since i was old enough to be conscious of it (probably around 9 years old). Since my body finished growing (probably around 17 years of age), my weight has been anywhere from 117 pounds (when I was starving myself and overdosing on diet pills in college) to 171 pounds (my heaviest weight which I was at a year ago).
I don't have any children, but I do interact with children a lot--I am a social worker and I work with kids who are in foster care. My job is very stressful at times and sometimes becomes all-consuming, which I don't like. It makes it hard to have a life sometimes, and it definitely makes it hard to stick to a workout plan when you are exhausted from work or haven't slept because I was up at night worrying about work. Lately, I have come to see exercise as a stress-reducer, and I do notice it is one of the things that makes me feel healthy and vital, like I am in touch with my body. I did not used to view exercise this way, so that is a good thing.
Here are my stats:
Weight - 166 pounds
Waist measurement - 31.75 inches
Hip measurement - 42.75 inches
Thigh measurement - 26.75 inches
Body fat percentage - 27.6%
Fat weight - 46 pounds
My main problem area is around the middle of my body: belly, hips, thighs, butt, which I think is common for females.
I exercise 6 days a week, alternating between cardio and strength training. I try to add a little bit onto my cardio (an extra minute or a little faster) every time I do it. I also try to increase my strength training exercises each time I do it.
I use Lipoderm Ultra for spot fat reduction and I take Triphala Gugglu which helps the body detoxify and can help get rid of excess fat. I have taken lots of stimluant-based diet pills in the past and they have had disastrous results on me systemically, so I now avoid those like the plague.
I don't really count calories because that starts driving me crazy, but I do try to eat only things that are healthy 6 days a week--protein, simple carbs, fruits, veggies, etc, avoiding most cheese, oil, and sugar. On Sundays, I eat whatever I want. Sunday is also my day off of exercise.
The best shape I was ever in was in my mid-20s, when I weighed anywhere from around 129 - 136 pounds. I can't remember what my body fat percentage was at that time, but I would guess probably around 19% - 22%. I think I looked smashing back then, really nice, with a body I could be very proud of. As many of you do, I have a certain outfit from those glorious days that if I can fit into it and look good, I will have reached my goal.
So although it is not exact, because I don't know exactly what my stats were in those times when I was at my fittest, I would say that to put numbers to my goal, I would like to weigh no more than 136 pounds by June 1. I am taking a very cool vacation in Costa Rica in the middle of June, and I want my body to be very nice-looking by then so that I can thoroughly enjoy the beach without feeling self-conscious. What the heck, I want to be more than just not self-conscious. I want to be able to look hot in a bikini! Not just ok---hot.
So... that is my story. I am hoping that joining this online community of people with similar goals to mine will help me in my journy to lose this weight and KEEP IT OFF FOREVER.
Nice to meet you. We'll be in touch.
