Hello - not a newbie, but new to the forums :)

Greetings :) I've been on this weight loss journey for almost a year now and dropped 38 pounds (I have 45 to go). I had been participating in a support thread on another forum, but the folks there didn't want to discuss sound weight loss and exercise (several of them were into Kimkins for a while and other calorically inadequate plans and hated me for posting information that gave sound reasoning those plans were harmful to their weight loss goals and could, in fact, injure them), so I am looking for a place with people who aren't afraid to dissect and discuss the nuts and bolts behind fitness and nutrition :)

As for what I am doing -

I try to keep my calories balanced and in a reasonable range of 1300 to 1600 daily (I am a 5'1 woman, so that is a reasonable and moderate deficit to maintain) and I try to get some cardio in each week. My goal in the new year is to step up the cardio and add strength training to maintain my muscle mass.

I use SparkPeople to track my calories daily and I participate in their Biggest Looser challenge on an ongoing basis.

I have read some "diet" books in my life, but for the most part, I don't follow a guru. However, I did get Tom Venuto's Ebook - Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle - which really appealed to me because his methods serve as a useful template to design my own eating and exercise plan. The fact that he gets into the science behind weight loss and muscle gain doesn't hurt either :p

My goals for 2008 are to drop this remaining 45 pounds, increase my endurance, increase my core strength and to rock climb more.

That's me in a nutshell :)

God Bless,
mik
