Hi... my name is Dawn. I came across this site while I was looking for information about tummy tucks... anyway that is another story.

I live in California, I have two sons. Before my last son I had been on a fitness misson and lost 92 pounds, was going to school to be a personal trainer, and got pregnant, lost focus and gained weight. I have lost 50 pounds since june, but didn't really start counting my success until I lost a few pounds, so yeah, 42 down.

Anyway I am happy, outgoing, and so excited to be back on track, kicking butt at the gym, and preparing to get my personal training certification this year! woo hoo!!

I am looking forward to reading here, and making new friends!! Have a wonderful day!

Oh yeah I posted my before and afters in the B & A forum!

Thanks!!! .. yes I know how that is.lol My body was almost to where I wanted it but pregnancy came and so did the cravings. I should have been more diligent in my workouts. Oh well, I am back and want to look better than ever!!

Welcome aboard and congrats on your success so far.

What made you decide to go with ACE?

HI! Thanks!

Well it was a toss up between them and ISSA. I called several gyms and asked what were some of the more respected and accredited "schools" and I went online and read a lot. I just found that they had very comprehensive study materials. And you can pay for the exam after you study, it was already 450. So I saved some money upfront. Plus you can take additional courses in nutrition and become certified as a fitness class trainer.

Where I used to live there was a junior college that had certification courses in PT,I took the first course but got pregnant. It's hard to find hard to find in a real brick and mortar school, so I gotta do what I gotta do! lol

Don't go with ISSA.

Open book tests a monkey could pass. I'm surprised the gyms weren't more high on certs like ACSM, NSCA, and/or NASM. They tend to be the most highly regarded.

But you should definitely go with the cert that the gym you want to work at desires.

Well there were so many to chose from. The gym I go to basically uses apex certified trainers I noticed, didn't want that. Too late now anyway, once I get some experience I can get other certifications!

Meh, I wouldn't worry about more certifications unless you find ACE really lacking in certain facets.

In truth, even the best certs are nothing more than "wall hangers."

Real information is learned with experience. You'd be much better suited "shadowing" a good, experienced trainer than going after another cert, IMO.

Best to you.
