Hi Everyone,

I'm 21 years old, 5'3" and weigh 127. I know that seems pretty average, but just a year ago I was at 108. Being at 108 was a HUGE accomplishment as it took me a year to go from 144-108 after totally changing my lifestyle. I stayed at that weight for a year and a half until I moved out for the first time. I began suffering from Night Eating (eating in the middle of the night, sometimes half asleep) when i moved away to college, and in only 6 months gained almost 20 pounds. I've moved home for summer (and am going to commute next year) and am committed to losing all 19 pounds as quickly as possible. I'm very active (have run a marathon as well as 2 half marathons) and eat pretty healthy, it is just when I suffer from emotional eating that I need all the motivation I can get.

I am pretty knowledgable about nutrition, and exercise, I would really just love support from people who have dealt with emotional eating as well as night eating. I am committed to never eating at night again and getting back my healthy positive life.

Thanks for listening!
Michelle

Hi Michelle, welcome to the forum! The eating from emotion is hard issue to address, there are many emotions, you know yourself best. Very good on the activity including marathons, but exercise is no match for what can be done at the dinner table, you can wipe out even a 26 mile run by too many calories taken in. Only thing I can say is think of all the good things that come from being thin versus all the bad and dangerous from being heavy and try to develop a mindset guided by the right choices.

Hi Michelle,

Just like you I am looking for motivation--lots of it.

In my own personal experience, self-control is important. But that doesn't mean that we will starve nor deprive ourselves. I agree with what knotty said. It is also good to have a good 'support group' as I call it. In my case, I ask my friends and family to keep on reminding me to control what I eat.

So, let's help one another. Your achievement will motivate me and others. We will also do our best to motivate you. :)

Welcome to the forum.

You have done it before so you can do it again. Tell yourself this if you doubt your ability to lose the recently gained pounds. Have you thought about maybe analysing and addressing the reasons behind your emotional eating? Such things tend to happen when we are worried about something...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
