Hi, I got started in the sport when I was 17 (many years ago). I used to run for a club and my friend and I walked into the club gym to see what was going on. We were told to get out as it was for men only. My friend simpered and giggled, I was instantly hooked on weights - it looked more fun than running, and I wanted muscles. So... I read everything available, started using the gym, and finally got round to competing in my mid 30's. So I guess it was pride, pig headedness and vanity - what better reasons?
