Hello all my name is Andy,

I came here tonight as a first step to start losing weight. i watched a documentary on Heart Attacks tonight and i noticed that i have like 9 out of the 10 symptoms of it. There's a few problems in my life though, I have a fear of almost everything. I am afraid of Doctors, Dentists Planes Oceans Spiders etc.. witch means i cant get my cholesterol taken or see if i have heart disease or anything because i am such a mess. I am generally a pretty active guy i get out almost every day walking (As a security guard). I've been overweight since grade 6 and i am now 21. i weigh Probably 400 pounds im not sure because im also afraid of scales But i am also 6 foot 8. so here i am ready to commit. i don't make enough money to go to a gym daily and i don't have enough time in my life to exercise.. so what do i do? what options are there for me? Im basically here to hear from all of you people like me who need to make Dramatic weight loss changes not 10 pounds here and there i mean like 300 pounds of weight lost. I mean i am super happy for all of you that manage to get to the weight you want but with a case like me.. I am at serious risk of Dieing.. i need some powerfull diet or pill. where do i start? someone please help me before i die.

Andy...

Your post hits home to me, because as of a few months ago, I weighed 379 pounds, and I'm only 6'4.

Here's the best news of your day: You are aware of your problem. Most people find excuses for their weight, and just pretend that the problem isn't there. You are aware, but here's the real question:

Are you honestly, truly ready to do something about it?

If so, surf this forum. There's some great tips. One I can give you is to set realistic goals, and take them down one by one. Don't just say "I'm going to lose 100 pounds", and start dieting. Make a plan. If you need help, we can help with suggestions.

One other thing.. don't be afraid of doctors. I used to be afraid of what they'd tell me too.. but the truth is, you already know what the possibilities are. A doctor can point you in the right direction, and give you support where you need it.

Hang around this place, you'll do great. We're all here to support you.

Okay buddy, we are here for you!

Lets get started by making a profile at , and then you need to get over your scale fear and go weigh in.

A healthy weight loss is about 2lbs / week, doesnt sound like much, but in a year thats 104lbs, thats more than half your weight GONE.

Next thing, there is no magic diet pill or fad diet that will save you, if anything they could do the opposite.

Considering your profession I imagine you have access to a gym, time to cash in.

An important note, your height makes a HUGE differance on where you need to be. You can be a healthy 225lbs.

Time to kick in the diet! You need to do this slowly so-as not to put your body in shock. Try removing 500 calories from your average day. If you drink regular pop 2-3 times a day thats a GREAT place to start. Stop drinking that pop and switch to diet, or even better, water. Just leave that out of your diet and after a week or so target the bad calories, saturated fats should be limited, and remove transfats completely. You want to get a good deal of your calories from healthy carbs and protein.

We are here for ya bud, we want to see you make it!

Andy,
I just read that you do, infact drink pop.

I understand how hard it is to quit, but thats the best place to start. Try switching to coke-zero, I hear ice cold it tastes just like regular coke.

A friend of mines sister lost over 100lbs just by removing pop from her life, thats all she did, no exercise, no dieting, just no pop

Step 1: See a doctor. Its a must.

Step 2: What do you eat?

Step 3: Move. Seriously thats what you need to do. Alot of security guards I know do little to no walking. Not only do you need to walk more at work, but walk more when not at work.

Thanks for all your tips. im going to start by making a serious comitment to drinking Diet only or coke ZERO Cola drinks

coke zero and diet coke have fewer calories but water is much better for you- there've been studies that show that diet colas do lead to weight gain...

try at having at l east half your fluids be water for a start

I agree with this, but if it's easier, try to make a slow transition instead of cold turkey. With everything else going on, just start with making 'better' decisions. If you can go from full sugar pop to diet, and then eventually move towards water, that'd be ideal.

Because the first or second ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup. It promotes fat storage.

Welcome Andy...

Nutrition and exercise are what will help you. Think of what you eat on a day to day basis, and try to make improvements over time. Start posting a daily journal here if you're comfortable with that, and there are plenty of great people here that will help you out with suggestions. Eating propery is extremely important.

Next is exercise. If you can't afford to go to a gym, then the easiest thing for you to do is to start walking. Start easy and work your way into longer and faster walks over time. Incorporating walking into your daily routine can work wonders.

Good luck buddy!
