Hello!:waving: My name is Janet, I am 40 yrs. old, a wife and mother of 3. I am currently trying to loose weight, and have been looking for message boards and forums of weight loss to help motivate my goals of losing weight and getting much more healthier. I ran across this forum and decided to join, and learn from others who have successfully reached their goals. I am currently on a 3 month Medical weight loss program from a local doctor. Hopefully this will jumpstart me enough on losing so that I can keep it going after the 3 months. Much success to all.

Welcome, Janet, and best of luck on your weight loss. This site has been a big help and motivation for me and countless others. Hope to hear about your progress in the future!

Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place.

Start a diary and see who visits - and visit them back in their diaries. You could also visit a few diaries yourself and see if they visit you back. This is the way that we make friends - which builds a vital support network which helps to keep us on track. We all have difficult days - but we are only successful if we forgive ourselves for our lapses and get back on track.

You can also make friends by joining clubs and challenges. The more you post - the more you get out of the forum.

Set lots of little milestones. The more weight that we have to lose - the more we need to note our moments of success along the way.

Exercise is very beneficial. I started off by walking a lot and branched out into other things. I wear a pedometer all day long and found that really helped me to become more active.

Hi Janet. Welcome! :)

What are your plans for losing weight? Do you have any thoughts on changing your eating and exercise habits?

I'd suggest reading the stickies in all the various forums - there's tons of good info there to give you a boost. :)

Thank You

Hi Kara, I applied for a Medical weight loss program at a local clinic. They checked my vitals, my health history, and gave me a EKG to make sure my heart wasn't showing problems that would cause me not to be able to do this type of weight loss program. I was warned about all the side effects, and what to do to minimize them. I got a B 12 shot in my arm, and a prescription of phentermine 37.5. You are suppose to take 1 pill every morning 30 minutes before breakfast. My doctor told me to eat 5 small meals a day, drink 8 bottles of 8oz. water, and to keep my calories at 1600 a day. She wants me to eat alot of protien foods and fiber foods.

I have to cut out cold drinks, (which was hard to do, I believed I crave Pepsi cold drink) she said just drink water only. She told me to work out for 30 minutes each day, that i could break the minutes up just as long as it total 30 minutes work out, and to do some light strength training 3-4 days out of the week using stretch bands. This is a 12 week program; the first month I go every 2 weeks, this is so they can check my blood pressure, and question me about any problems or concerns. After that first month I go once a month to check my vitals, and weight, and recieve another 30 days of pills.

I was concerned with the side effects of these pills so I decided to take half a pill the first 2 days and I did not have any problems except I felt sleepy, these pills are suppose to curb your appetite and boost your metabolism. The next 2 days I cut the pills and took them in 3/4 of a pill, so far still know side effects and this time I was not sleepy. I may take one more 3/4 pill tomorow, and then I will start the whole 1 pill a morning after that. Before this weight loss program. I would eat 3 meals a day, and 2-3 snacks a day. But the meals I ate would be like Fried chicken, macarooni & cheese, and greenbeans. My plate would be almost covered completely with the large amounts of foods. I would drink a big glass of Ice cold pepsi with it, and then shortly after that eat either 4-6 cookies or a nice slice of my favorite cake. Alot of times I would miss breakfast, but my luch would consist of big meals that I would eat for dinner, or Burger King combo meals. I was probably taking in anywhere from 2500 -3000 calories a day. I did not work out at all, and I would always eat late at night.

My diet now is 2 scrambled eggs, 1/2 cup of boiled whole oats (no sugar added) and a 2-3 inch piece of Butterball Smoked Turkey Sausage. I would eat a orange 1 hour after that, then I eat a thin slice of ham on two breads and 1 1/2 - 2 cups of salad about 2-3 hours after that. I would have another meal that was a 2-3 cups of salad with a thin slice of smoked roasted turkey cut into small pieces on my salad, along with 1 slice of bread with crunchy peanut butter folded in half, and a cut up half an apple. I drink 6 bottles of 8oz. water one day and 7 8oz. bottles of water on the next. It runs me to the bathroom all day long, and night too. I have walked on the treadmill one day for five minutes it keeps up with miles, fat burned, calories burned. Five minutes was all I could handle on the treadmill, the next day I did some repitition strength training with my stretch band, and about 40 sit-ups on my ab-lounger, my calvs and stomach were sore the next day. I did not work out yesterday, but I did walk one mile today at the park.

I signed up for the program on 8/11/09 I got the B 12 shot that day and I weighed 251 at doctors office they have a big digital scale, when I got home and used my scale it was 248, so I keep in mind that my scale is 3 lbs. off from theirs. I did not start my pills untill the next morning because if you take them late in the evening they will cause you insomnia and keep you up all night. The lbs. are coming off fast, I lost a total of 9lbs. in 6 days, as much as I ran to the bathroom to urinate and other things I knew it was mostly all fluid I was lossing. I do not crave my sweets and the cold drinks like before, but I have noticed that in the evenings I feel hungry almost like a hunger pain, so I eat more salad and a fruit figuring that I wasn't getting enough of food in my body. I hope I will be able to keep eating in the same manner when I go off this program, I will wing myself off of the pill the same way I am easing myself more to taking the whole pill. I am told people feel horrible when they get off of them, and they do tell you that it can be addictive. So far everything is good.
