I'm April, 31 year old mom of 4 kids ages 15, 12, 8, 8. I am 5 ft 2 inches. Okay, okay, I'm really like 5 ft 1 3/4. I weight around 165 right now and would like to be 135 or less by summer. This is my New Year's resolution. I am starting the rice diet tomorrow. I tried it once a few years ago and lost 7 lbs in 5 days. I do my own modified version of it.

Anyway, I hope to get to know everyone better soon! :auto:

hiya im new aswell. i have only just heard about the rice dite but i dont understand it lol. do u know of any book/sites i can find out more about it? oh and good luck

That 7 pound loss in 5 days was mostly water weight due to the extreme salt restriction of the rice diet. You can't lose 7 pounds of fat in 5 days.

Is the rice diet a diet you would be willing to follow indefinitely? If it is not, then you need to think about how you will be eating after the rice diet is over. It has to be different than you are eating now, or you will put the weight right back on.

Now, if you know how you will be eating after the rice diet is over, and it will maintain a healthy weight, why not skip the rice diet and start the maintenance diet now?

Hi,

I just signed up today.

Looking to get help and advice. I really need to lose a lot of weight.

I officially will start tomorrow

I am Cathy a full time mom of an almost 4 year old. I live in the Northwest and I do have a membership to 24 hour fitness. i also have Wii fit.

Harold is right! The rice diet is just another fad diet. to be successful in long term weight loss, you have to stick to a way of eating that you will continue for the rest of your life. Please look around the forum and read the stickies. These are full of good, tried and true tip for weight loss. There are alot of them in the "on topic" section.

Hi and welcome.

I also agree with everyone above. Fad diets aren't going to help you lose weight and keep it off. You need to think of losing weight as a lifestyle change, not a fad diet that you stop and start.

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.
