hi!!!!

i am beginning my journey of weight loss.

I'm only 5' and weighs 150 lbs. I started gaining weight when i begun working 6 years ago. I worked graveyard shifts, and I'm usually very tired and sleepy when i get home. I would eat then sleep, then eat and sleep more. Sitting 8 hours at the office does not help either. I became very lazy.

I was in denial for years about my obesity. When i go shopping i would still try to fit the sizes I had before, and would get very frustrated when it's way too small for me. I avoided the beach, eventhough I live on a tropical country. I don't use my digital camera anymore coz i don't like what i saw on the pictures. I don't like going out with friends. My confidence is very low.

When we had our annual physical early this year, I received a very disturbing news. I am type 2 obese. I know this at the back of my mind but i was just too stubborn and lazy to realized it. I got very depressed when i received the results.

Now, it's time for to take control of my weight. I know it's going to be hard, but if others can do it..y can't I, right?

Hi Path,

Welcome. You can do this!! You have also come to the right place. There is lots of great information and support on this forum. Good Luck!!

I'm only 5' and weighs 150 lbs.

When we had our annual physical early this year, I received a very disturbing news. I am type 2 obese. I know this at the back of my mind but i was just too stubborn and lazy to realized it. I got very depressed when i received the results.

I don't know what medical staff your company used to provide you with your physical, but you might want get some second opinions before you start calling yourself "type 2 obese."

The one thing you have to keep in mind is that the Body Mass Index (BMI) chart is just a guide. It's not a perfect science; it's a vague estimation. Also, not every single BMI chart is the same. Some sources will tell you that a BMI of 30 or above is obese, while others may tell you that a BMI of 28 or above is obese. So, don't take one result and feel as if it is a fact. Look around at different BMI charts and take into account that none of them are perfect. Just use the BMI charts as a guide; not a tool to diagnosis yourself with obesity.

You are 5' tall and weigh 150 lbs. According to the BMI chart used by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) in the United States, you have a BMI of 23.49, which is listed as a 'normal' weight.

According to the BMI chart used by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (which is a division of the US Department of Health & Human Services), you have a BMI of between 29 and 30, which is on the borderline between 'overweight' and 'obese.'

If you were to continue to use different sources to obtain your BMI, you will see that the results will continue to vary.

So, don't take the ONE result you got from the medical staff used by your employer and think that their opinion is undeniably accurate - because it's not. Don't feel bad. You may be 'type 2 obese' to them, but to a looooot of other credible sources, you aren't in too bad of shape.

Good luck with everything.
