hello guys. i think my situation is slightly different from most people...kinda complicated. and i need some advice, (no, i correct that), i need alot of advice on this.

i'm in high school now, and i used to spend a few hours a day training. I stopped temporarily since I can't cope with school activities. what I cant believe is that I've put on like 6 pounds in an incredibly short time. and I can't seem to lose it.

I don't believe in skipping meals coz I'd probably die of hunger (haha!) but my diet isnt much of a problem since my mom keeps strict tabs on my eating to make sure I dont grow any bigger than I am now. My greatest problem is have too much fat around my butt and thighs. I was wondering if you know any good exercises for that. I REALLY NEED LOTS AND LOTSA HELP!! THANK YOU :)

my coach told me I'm too fat and this will affect how well I perform, which affects getting selected for competitions/performances. so if I can tone up that area, I don't mind the muscle weight. I know like in magazines, many images are airbrushed, but for myself at least, we have to look acceptable live. there's no photoshop. so it's hard :(

oh btw, I'm just about 5"6 and 110lbs now (asians are naturally smaller build though). and i have a question: does being flexible affect whether one has thinner legs (eg the rhythmic gymnasts are all thin!)

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO MY NONSENSE AND PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME :)

photo with the trouble spots. just need to lose a bit here and there

So how is your problem different than most? Or complicated?

I won't give specific advice, since you are a minor and wanting to lose weight while you are already light.

That said, no exercise in the world is going to spot reduce your fat away. Fat leaves the body in a predetermined genetic pattern.

Coaches Statement

At 5 6 and 110 pounds you are NOT too fat!!!!

Skipping meals - not a good thing, this can actaully cause the body to hang onto fat as it begins to think it is starving!!!

Begin a food diary tracking the type and amount of food you are taking in each day along with the exercise you are doing. be sure to include the intensity of the excercise. I.e. Heart rate up to XX for XX minutes, 3 x XX sets of weights at what level.

Once you have this you and your coach (assuming they are trained) or perhaps another adult at school can help you to determine what you need to do to stay healthy. Keep in mind that as a teen your body is still growing and MUST have nutrition to do it right.

What sport are you in?

Good Luck

I think its different cos sometimes I'd be training up to 8hours a day. it's not like I'm not exercising. It's just the trouble spots. By the time I lost weight overall, to get rid of those areas, I'd look anorexic. I'm already on the thinner side in school, but not enough to keep up with our "requirements".

Find a new coach...

Haha! I wish! Only the club can do that. I can't. Besides she's been coaching me for like 6 years now.

thanks for the advice! I'll have to get back in shape before the next season :)
Main sport is synchronized swimming. But I do a couple other things by the side

Wow! Post a picture of yourself because either you're measuring yourself wrong and you're 4'11" instead of 5'6"... lol Or your scale is way off and you weigh 130 instead of 110 ...
There is no way that you could be fat at 5'6" and 110 pounds even if you have a very tiny frame.

No offense, but I think your coach is a whack. I agree with what Mal said, but then again, if you've been with that coach for some time, I suppose you're used to that type of thinking. It just bugs me that someone has the nerve to call you "fat" when according to your stats, you're far from that. The next time you see your coach thank her for giving you a fucked up body image.

PS For 5'6", you're pretty tall for an asian. (I'm part Chinese and just reaching 5'0") As for being flexible, I have very strong, "thick" (muscular) legs and I can put a contortionist to shame, so I don't really think having thinner legs really helps with flexibility IMO.

it looks alot worse in a swim suit in real life!

lol I agree. some coaches can be so crazy. it isnt only her. its the whole china/japan/russia/korea even the US. but I've heard of athletes starving to death to meet the requirements in different sports. scary huh? I SO WONT DO THAT! I guess when I first met her, I was a much younger kid, and we put on weight as we age. but somehow her extra gym workouts/running to lose weight never seemed to work

Swimming...

Swimming coaches can be rough. I was on the swim team my senior year in high school, and that was a tough season... My coach wasn't so bad, but a few other teams I talked to at away games said that the coaches had them practically starving themselves. You're far from fat, just keep up a daily regime of exercise, and like people said above. Don't skip meals! I'm sure you will meet your goal :D.
