I am currently 5ft10, male 23 years old and 14.6 stone. I want too lose about 1stone or maybe more. I need advice tho because I have been put on Domperidone because I have problems with my stomach and huge amounts of acid reflux. I also already take lansoprazole anyway, but it has stopped being as effective. I know that Domperidone can increase your appetite leading too weight gain, so any advice would be awesome.

I dont want to get any fatter then I am :( and Domperdone isnt welcome, but its better then being in pain all the time.

Anything would be appreciated!

Hi Dragon, welcome

Sounds like you need professional dietary advice in the main.

Strange they'd give you a med that is likely to exacerbate your reflux problem. I mean overeating is bad for reflux. Though i know there are meds to help with that too. Boy you have to take a med and then anohter to help cope with that and another to help with that and it goes on and on. This is common in the elderly but not the young.

And if its about making food choices that will reduce that then i don't know too much to help you there. Though I think rich and fatty foods are not good for reflux or stomach problems. So i'd say eat plain and simple foods. But really you should be talking to a dietician based in hospital works. And your doctor. Plain and simple foods are good for weight loss. Check out my diet diary.

What is wrong with your stomach btw?

Maybe start a diary and keep a food log. I am sure it will be useful for others to find out what foods you can eat that don't upset your stomach. There is a diary section here.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply, the problem is that the valve on my lower oesophagus opens whenever my diaphragm moves, its been passed on from my mother. A quick cure is to stop breathing, of course then ill meet the cure all, death shortly after. Failing that (or not wanting to try it) I am on drugs too control the reflux, but lately my meds have stopped working as well.

I have been given domperidone today from the doctor which should help according too him by making my stomach contract faster meaning my stomach empties faster and so does my bowls. I dont care about going too the toilet more often, but having an increased appetite due too being "empty" more often, is not somthing I like the idea of...

I would presume you know that the valve you mention is the reason why you get reflux. You should have that operated on. Life will be a lot better and a lot healthier after that. It can by done by keyhole surgery. Or is there some reason the doctor thinks it can't be.

Also overeating will definitely aggravate the problem.

Given what you say above, i can't see why the medicine should really make you want to eat more. YOu are already eating too much. You need to adopt a better diet with controlled portions. Then maybe you won't need those meds.

Maybe smaller meals more often would work for you.

I recommend you work out your BMR and maintenance calories then try to eat 500-1000 calories less per day. Start doing some regular exercise.

As you weight goes down the problems you are having will reduce somewhat. But it sounds like you still need an operation. But i'm not a doctor. Discuss it with yours and get a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the explanation of your doctor for not having one.

Has your doctor discussed weight loss with you? Is domperidone a laxative? Its not good to take those for long periods of time.
