Hello everyone, I'm happy to meet all of you =) my name is Andrea and I'm 21 years old. I was actually hesitant to join a weight loss forum in fear of being rejected because, well, weight loss isn't really the issue but more maintaining and keep the weight I have lost off.

I was 156 pounds at the beginning of last year and now I'm around 138. I know that's considered skinny in pretty much everyone's book but I would really like to get rid of the excess fat on my stomach and thights. I feel like I'm in a strange medium between small and big and though I do still like my body, I would just like to tone up in this areas.

I have a fast metabolism so when I lose weight it tends to stay off but it won't always be that way, so I'm trying to find ways to maintain a healthy life style. I'm not too keen on necessarily changing everything about my diet but I think my problem is portion control.

I've eaten three quarts of curry chicken in like the last 4 days. I also ate some pizza and maybe a few other things but mainly the curry chicken, a handful of egg rolls, and a ton of white rice. When I crave something, I crave it BAD. In fact, I'm craving it right now

So yeah, my goals are:

1) tone up stomach and thighs
2) portion control
3) at least 6 8-ounce glasses of water a day (I normally only drink soft drinks)
4) 1 hour of exercise a day
5) Vitamins

I just need somewhere to be accountable, you know? It really helps. I might have a boyfriend this year and I'm really excited and would like to just take care of my body issues I have, so that's part of my motivation. I also just have a family full of diabetes, high blood pressure, and even some breast cancer so I really need to take control of my health before I'm forced to.

Thanks for everyone who reads and comments in advance and can't wait to see you all on the forums!

Welcome to the party!

First, Congrats! You took the first step. That is all that is needed to begin, just taking the step to say I can do better.

You say you sometimes crave things. My question is 'what are you feeling?'. Sometimes, there is an emotion or a situation that connects to the craving. That where 'comfort foods' come from. Me? I eat when I get bored or extra stressed. It is a craving so I've started doing something else when that happens so that food is disconnected from those feelings. It may or may not fit you, I don't know.

I'd suggest first reading all the stickies on the forum as there is a wealth of info there. This is a good bunch of people and I hope we can help you push forward with your goals in a healthy and safe manner.

Welcome to the forum. Have no fear of rejection here - we are all work in progress - even when we get to goal... Maintenance is a whole issue and I can testify that it is tricky for everyone... My weight is still high after Christmas...

Well done on losing the surplus weight that you were carrying.

I agree with Jericho that it is a good idea to read all around the forum as there is tons of good information - especially in those sticky threads. A lot of people find that it helps to make friends by visiting people in their diaries and also by having your own diary and see who visits...

It can also help to see if there are any challenges which are suitable for you to join. Not every challenge is strictly only concerned with weight loss - and it can be worth seeking them out.

The forum where my main diary is runs quite a few challenges which are suitable for maintainers - so it may be worth you checking them out from time to time too...

Research by the National Weight Control Registry (who are doing the biggest study ever on weight maintenance after losing weight) report that the vast majority of their successful maintainers exercise for at least an hour a day. That knowledge may motivate you to do the exercise that you have already identified as being necessary.

Welcome fellow Tennessean! There's plenty of wisdom and encouragement to be found here...so make yourself at home.

See ya around,
Fit

Awe thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome! I will be sure to get all over this site. I also want to find a place on here I can sort of just update people on my progress and downfalls (I've already sinned lol), etc.

Good luck to all of you as well, I think this is going to be a very positive experience for me as it has been for all of you =)

Veggie, Congrates on taking the first step to success. First off believe you can do it and never beat yourself up if you have an off day. While being in the Air Force for nearly 11 years and seeing multiple traininers, there has been one thing beat in my head time after time. You don't need all the protien shakes or weight loss pills. A few small things to live by and you will see results, Guaranteed!

1. Drink WATER! Lots of Water! The old myth of 8-8oz glasses is not enough when you are active. Drink 80-90oz a day atleast.

2. 4-5 "Small" meals a day. Eat something rather then nothing. This will help lower your over all calorie intake. Eat slowly until you are satisfied.

3. Very important: Never miss breakfast. This goes back again to the "eat something rather then nothing".

4. Get atleast 20 mins a day of an aggressive workout a day, 3-4 times a week.

I promise you that you follow these four things and you will see results. Now, the hardest thing is not being discouraged. It might take you 5-6 weeks to see major results.

You can do it! I am doing it right now!

Good luck and we are all here right along with you. Feel free to email me anytime.
