Hello. I have been a member of this site for a period of time now and have really enjoyed and benefitted from the comments of the members here. Thank you.
I am currently 51 years old and had been living a relatively sedentary lifestyle until I turned 50 years old (May 2007). My present for the birthday was the birth of my youngest son. Forced me to take good hard look at where I was at and where I was going to be in 20 or 30 years. At 50 I was 6’2’ 205 lbs body fat at 21% and the endurance of a slug as evidenced by a VO2 max of 36 and cholesterol of 194. It was time to make some big changes, first was to sell my financial services business (a decision I am really enjoying now in light of the current economic turmoil) and stay home for my 6 year old and new born son. Next started working out daily lifting and running, the running I have always hated and still do but am totally addicted to it. Enrolled in several boot camps which are where I found that I still thrive on challenges and competition. By the end of 2007 my weight was down to 180, my VO2max was 46 and cholesterol 154 and body fat of 15%.
2008 was a year of challenges. In June I completed the MS 150 a two day 150 mile bike ride. In September 4 friends and I road our bikes from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh, PA, a 4 day 335 mile bicycle ride. And finally in October I completed the Marine Corps Marathon 10K. Weight dropped to 174 and body fat is 11% and VO2max is 56.
I want to thank all the forum members for their advice which I garnered while lurking in the shadows. The motivation provided by members like Sparrow, Chillen, Karky, BikeSwimLaugh, Kraken, Tic and the unequaled ILM. I love the tips, insights and motivation provided (along with the sexual innuendo and double entendre)
2009 goals are set and I will continue to need the support from this forum. MS150 in June, Olympic distance triathlon in August and the full Marine Corps Marathon in October. Hopefully I will have something of value to offer the forum in the future.
Only one thing has bothered me… it was the derogatory comment about ILM’s A$# in her avatar, he must be blind. I use her avatar as my screen saver.
