Hello from Ohio!

Hello! Well, I guess I'll start with the basics. My name is Dave, I'm 42, and I have recently started working out in earnest. I am married to my wife of 21 years, and we have two sons...15 and 20. We live in Grove City, Ohio, and I'm a System Manager for Motorola and DW is an office manger with Meals on Wheels.

This past year we had some significant success with changing our eating habits. Working with the Weight Watchers core program each of us was able to lose 25 pounds. I am glad to say that we have stuck with the healthy eating habits that we learned through the program, and have been able to keep the weight off.

With that monkey off our back we began to focus on working out. We have had a membership at the local YMCA for quite some time, and we had started workout regimens over and over only to have them fall by the wayside. Getting to the gym with both my wife and I working full time, and having a teenage son that is very active in school activities, just seemed to be something we weren't able to pull off with any consistency. The answer, for us...a home gym.

We had been saving up for a kitchen remodel, but knowing that we needed to work on our health and fitness we redirected the money into turning our basement into a home gym. The kitchen would have to wait another year! We purchased a Nordic Track C2500 treadmill, a Bowflex Extreme 2, a heavy bag, and a recumbent bike. I picked up the recumbent bike from a friend for $50. We laid down rubber floor tiles, and even mounted a TV in the corner. That was about 2 months ago, and I am glad to say that working out each morning before getting ready for work has become a part of my routine. I have more strength, energy, stamina, clarity and focus. This just after two short months...simply amazing.

My long term goal is simple. I want to strengthen and maintain my core. I am not looking to get ripped or cut, or bulk up. I simply want to strengthen the muscles that I use/need in my day to day life. That, and a cardio regimen to stave off the HBP that plagues my entire immediate and extended family.

With working out I tend towards impatience, expecting quick results. If I don't see them I push myself too hard, hurt myself, lay off until I heal then start the cycle all over again. I have to keep reminding myself that this is a marathon and not a sprint, and that if I'm patient and persistent I will achieve my goals. It's only been two months, but so far...so good! :)

Welcome to the forum.

2 things that stood out: Congratulations on a great lasting marriage. Knowing that the muscles you use daily are the ones you need to strengthen.

Welcome Wojo!

Keep it up! I married a great woman when I was 21 and 27 years and 3 kids later, I am married to the same great woman.

Thanks for the welcome, and for the comments. :) Yep, the personal side of my life...wife, kids, house, work, fun, relaxation...are great, and mostly balanced. I try every day not to take any of it for granted.

My health, until we started making changes last year...that has been another story. There's no point dwelling on past neglect, but I won't allow myself to forget how lousy I felt before I started treating my health and fitness as a priority.

Thanks again for the welcome! :)

Race analogies are fine, but success is a journey, not a destination.

Remember.....

" a nice thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time "

Best of luck !
