Hello From NY State

Frustrated

Hi everyone! I'm brand new here and I'm looking for some support or answers.

I've been thin (fit) all my life, never weighing over 130. I never really watched what I ate but I exercised faithfully which kept me fit and trim.

In 2004, I went through a depression which lasted over a year, I gained 40lbs. I stopped exercising and became an emotional eater.

I'm not one that believes in anti-depressants until my doctor recently (5weeks ago) started me on 10mg of Prozac. She said that was a very low dose and that may be all I need. I've never felt better but now, where do I begin with weight loss? I don't know how to lose weight! I see people that have lost more than 20lbs and I'm amazed and their effort and patience.

I know how to work out, I know what I need to do but evertime I start, I lose hope and I lose faith in myself thinking...this isn't going to happen, maybe I should just settle for being a size 12, but then I'm unhappy when I look in the mirror. My goal right now is just to lose one size and I can't even manage that!

Sorry for making my intro so long.

It's up to you...

You have taken the first step in reaching out for understanding.

There are different pills, plans, potions, and psychologies out there for you to learn. Some people count calories, carbs, or proteins, or a combination. Some only want to lose a little; some want to lose a lot. So you have entered the maze of weight loss.

Eventually whatever you do will need to lead you to this destination and that is using more calories than you eat. That is the formula for weight loss.

There is a success principle in losing weight and that is start off slowly in a direction and stick to that path. It is like the riddle of how you eat an elephant. And that is "one bite at a time." If you make to abrupt of a change, you may get tired and quit. If you slowly make changes, you create new habits and attitudes. If you drink sodas, slowly cut back until you have cut them all out. Increase your water intake. The general rule of thumb is to take your weight in pounds and divide it in half and that gives you the number of ounces of water you need to drink in a day. Example: A 200 pound person should be drinking 100 ounces of water or about 3 liters per day.

Ask any and all questions as there are no stupid questions. Research your path and what plan of attack you are going to use. When researching, look for actual results. Don't go off of claims alone. Anybody can claim anything, but you will want to look for results.

I hope I have helped you with some direction. Come on back anytime and ask again.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll find whatever plan works for you but let me tell you about mine.

I eat between 1100-1300 calories a day of good food. I guess that's really the key..good food. I also now only drink diet soda (if I have any), I figure why drink my calories away when I can eat them!

I also exercise at least 5 days a week. I find that I can't just watch my food intake...the weight doesn't move unless I do. I'm big into cycling and sit-ups, it's what's working for me right now.

So far I've lost 32 pounds on my 'Don't eat crappy food diet' and I'm a happy camper. Good luck!
