Hello from India

Hello everyone,

Originally from New Hampshire, I have been living in India for the last four years. I am 28 years old and 5 feet 3 inches tall. In the last few months, I gained weight quite dramatically. Part of it was stress, and not really caring what I ate, but I was also resigned to the fact that it was genetic (my mom gained a lot of weight in her mid-twenties- so I thought I was like her and literally gave up). However, in the last month or so (with people commenting on my weight constatly), I have also come to realize that it was my own laziness that has brought me here.

I have started doing yoga in the morning with an instructor for one hour and I want to start eating healthy. My weaknesses are sweet stuff, cookies (there's and amazing German bakery where I live), cakes and bread. I do eat rice on occasions, which I think is not good.

Since I live in India it is hard to follow the western diet programs. It is not easy (and expensive) to buy American food brands I am used to. Very few here know what special K is. :)

It would be great support if there are people from India in this community. I have read some amazing stories here in the forum and feel that the community is very warm and welcoming. Support, advise, criticisms etc, all welcome! Here's where my journey begins...

Welcome! I hope you can find what you need.

not all rice is bad :) try the basmati rice or a brown rice, and just have smaller portions.

I always was on the assumption that most indian food is pretty healthy for you? Maybe just staying out of the sweets for the most part will help? Maybe find a diet book you like and can adapt to the foods you have there.

best of luck! you can do it :)

:) Indian food is generally healthy--and food tastes so much better here than there!! It is amazing! However, it does get a little heavy, saucy, spicy and oily once in a while. That said, I have started making stuff at home myself. I think that is the only way to avoid eating out so much.

Thanks for the support. Now on to writing on my dairy.
