Hello from England

Newbie here! I've had to convert my weight from Kilos or Stone, as i've noticed everyone is using lbs. Is that an American thing, because i'm from the UK. Anyway, i'm just under 250lbs and just over 6ft, looking and feeling like ****, with some nasty stretch marks on me that look like i've been pregnant! Since i left College (June 06), i've put on about 40lbs. This due to the obvious things, no exercise what so ever, drinking heavily and eating too much (ie when i'm bored). Started to cut down on my portions recently and started going to the gym on Monday. I think my aim is to lose the 40 lbs i put on, and maybe a bit more on top of that, even though i know it's going to be very difficult. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

You can use lbs, stone, or kilos... whatever makes you happy. haha Welcome to the forum. Congrats to you for wanting to take care of yourself while you're still young. Here are a few tips that might make your stay here a bit easier:

1. Read all stickied threads for nutrition/ fitness information.
2. Start your own diary to keep yourself accountable of meals and workouts. In the meantime, you'll get to meet other members and can share ideas/ advice, etc.
3. Don't be afraid to drop into other diaries to show support or find inspiration. (It's a two way road here... unfortunately, a lot of people don't understand that. haha)
4. If you're interested in counting calories, you can get a free calorie counter at or
5. Most importantly, don't make any drastic changes. Small changes here and there are what really count. (ie: working out 30 mins a day as opposed to killing yourself and trying for 2 hrs... etc)

Just be patient and have fun. Wishing you all the best.
