I found this forum and like what I see. I recently decided to go ahead and get my weight down (better for my back, long-term health, etc.). I'm currently at 180 with a short-term goal of 173 over a ten-week-period (I'm in week two of that). My longer-term goal is 145 by sometime in mid-2009.
I'm big boned and have never weighed less than 136 since I was a "skinny" teenager. (I'm 44 now.) So I'm certainly not aiming at anything less than that. I was still a healthy size 14 when I was in my early 140's, so I think that that's a good place to get back to.
I'm not on any particular diet, but since processed foods and fast foods tend to make me feel icky, I have decided to cut out the fast food, and I got a book and started counting the calories and stuff -- just to be more aware of how ridiculous I've let my diet get. And getting off my butt and walking more. Just simple things. I'm not in any big hurry. I just want to stay steady, but I although think that even though over time eating better will be more of a habit, it will be just as easy to fall back into old patterns at any time. I just really started, so I haven't gotten to the point where bad stress or life situations might take its toll.
Anyway, I think it would be good to just touch bases with other folk who are also trying to lose weight. So here I am.
