Hello from Chicago suburb

Hello,

I'm a 62 year old male who is now someone with a slight "gut" (I'm 6'3", 235 lb., 38 inch waist...:() and I'm disgustred by it. I have been fit all my life and was a bodybuilder in my late teens 20's until my routine was disrupted by Uncle Sam. But I have always since been a member of a health club (first one in 1962). I am bound and determined to get in the best shape of my life again!!! I have really never totally quit for any extended period of time but have gone through periods of really slacking off. I'm sure many of you can relate. I don't expect to get back into the "going for the 400 lb. bench press, but do want to stave off muscle loss as much as possible!!! Just wanted to say, "hello".

BTW...is there a good fitness software program for planning and tracking workouts, weight loss, etc? I need as many motivational tools as possible!!!

Welcome Samalw! Is that 38" your circumference around your belly button (quite lean for a 235#er) or your pant size?

Post your workouts on the forum. You can track your eating on .

Thanks for the welcome g8r80!

It's pant's size...and I can still fit into 36X36 Levi's. I'm quite sure, with my new "paunch", I'd probably be more like 40" at the belly button. I've always had a flat stomach until the last couple of years. Got remarried to an excellent cook in 2000, slowed down, etc., etc. I was formerly...for decades...a gym rat and fitness nut. Supplements out the wazoo, 3 hours of weightlifting per workout, couldn't wait to get to the gym, etc. I'm also recently retired and have lost my motivation to look good in a suit, etc. When I would shop for a suit, I had to get an "athletic cut" or a brand that came with an 8" drop from coat to pants size. I wore a 46 long and would have to have a couple of inches taken in at the waist of the 38" pants that came with the suit. But the downside of the "good life" is that I can't stand not being in shape. I guess this is a good thing since it, in itself, will be a good motivator.
