Hello from an old guy

Hi everyone. My name is Mike Kelley, and I'm a senior (seasoned?) citizen who was able to lose 70+ pounds in around 9 months. Considering that both your metabolism and your activity level tends to slow down as you age, I'm pretty proud of my achievement.

As always, of course, nothing is perfect, and I'm always striving for as close to perfection as this (old) body will allow. Hence I journeyed here to see what others had to say (and perhaps contribute if I can).

Right now while everyone in my life is telling me I've lost enough I'm pretty clearly not all the way there -- I have a tiny belly that annoys me no end. Part of the problem is that for the first 35 pounds or so I didn't do any strength training so of course I lost muscle as well as fat (had it been all or even mostly fat my belly would be long gone -- as it was I went from a size 46 pants to a size 32).

After I lost the 70 pounds I purposefully gained 10 back with a lot of strength training (so it was mostly muscle). Now I've lost all of that back and in the process lost another 1 1/2 inches off my waist. My goal is to lose another 10-12 pounds to get the final 1 1/2 off, and then gain 10-20 pounds back for my final weight (as much as anything is final).

My biggest joy is I've found a diet and lifestyle I can maintain for the rest of what time I have left on earth, and I'm so much healthier now than I ever was when I was supersized (stopped my sleep apnea, got rid of my planar facetitis, dropped cholesterol from the high 200's to the low 100's, and blood pressure from 140/90 to 106/56). My only regret is I waited so long to do this, as I feel I've wasted at least a decade of my life being too heavy. Truthfully, if I knew it was going to be this easy to lose weight I never would have procrastinated (unfortunately, like many, I believe in the fad diets that never worked beyond a week or two for me).

Again, hello and now I'm off to read and learn.
