Hello! (from a optimistic college student)

Hello!

I am a 21 year old junior student at Indiana University. The last three years of college has wrecked havoc on my health and after a few unsuccessful attempts to change that, I feel like I finally WANT to change, instead of feeling forced to. This makes it unbelievably easier to get up and get moving, since I can find the motivation within myself to do it.

Past (Heaviest) Weight: 237
Current Weight: 227.2
Goal Weight: 160

So, yes, while I am at the beginning of another journey towards better health, I feel better and more confident than previous times. I also think that this is great timing, having the warm summer months ahead and more opportunities to get outside and get moving.

Being a healthy-living college student is hard. Addictions are everywhere, and they are easy to make and hard to break. I have cut back completely on cigarettes, trying to watch my drinking a little better, and have avoided the 12.99 pizza-breadsticks-drink deal from the local delivery place. It's hard, but I WANT to do it.

Like I said, I have tried this before but with no real success. At my previous college I tried to work out daily, but would just cancel that out with bad eating habits. I am now at a large, Big-10 university and have two massive rec centers to work out in for free. I have lots of resources at my disposal and I couldn't think of a better time to start this new lifestyle.

I read some sent emails that my girlfriend sent her mom, and one of her friends. It went something to the effect of "...maybe once [he] is older, balding, and has an even BIGGER gut on him." That was the last straw, and I packed up my bag and went to the gym that minute, and am doing well so far.

Anyways, all of this was mainly just for me to introduce myself. I look forward to learning how to be healthier from all of y'all, some of the members on here have accomplished so much and I await the day when I can stop learning advice, and maybe give it to someone that needs a little encouragement :)

Welcome! Congrats on making that first step to a healthier you! You'll find these boards helpful and motivational! Best of luck to you:)
