Hi all,
After some enlightening and enjoyable reading of your forum, I decided to join.
I look forward to sharing ideas and encouragement (AND successes)!
About me:
Although I am new to this group (and to forums, period), I am not new to the world of weight loss. I have been overweight to some degree my entire life - lost weight and regained it, while always maintaining a fairly active lifestyle. Two years ago, at 39 years of age, I realized that I could no longer keep up with the activities I enjoyed (fishing, boating, camping, hiking, gardening, etc.) - I was starting to slow down, and I did not bounce back like I used to after 10 hours of fishing or yard work.
I like to be outdoors and active, so I needed to make a change. It has been almost 2 years and I have managed so far to lose over 50 pounds, in stages, and keep it off during what I like to call "maintenance breaks". I recently geared up to lose the final 35 pounds.
During my active weight loss stages, I stick to a strict 1200 cal diet with loads of fruits and veggies and keep a food journal of every morsel I eat. Now I am adding an activity/exercise journal to track cals burned, which I have never done before.
I love to be outside and be active, but I HATE exercise. Even so, it has become painfully clear to me that in order to lose any more weight (and improve my health) I have to exercise. I have been experimenting with all kinds of exercise (yoga, cardio tapes, weight training, etc.). I do not mind the free-weight routines I do for my upper body, but I hate the cardio routines and despise yoga. I am still searching for something I enjoy. Today I ordered a rowing machine - the only machine in the gyms I have been to that I can really say I enjoyed using; keep your fingers crossed that it does not end up in the attic
