Hello from a Newbie...GETTING STARTED

Hello,
I am just getting started here.

I quit smoking about 10 months ago and for my "good intentions" I was given about 20-25 extra pounds. I certainly prefer the pounds to smoky lungs but I need to get on top of this stuff.

I've been a member of a local gym around my corner for about a year. I usually go there run on the eliptical machines for about 40 minutes and then do a few crunches. I am not doing enough.

My system is not really a system and i would love some help getting started.

I know I need a total system in terms of cardio, weight lifting (I don't know a thing), and nutrition.

Can anyone point me to a getting started thread or point me in the right direction.

I'm not searching for the easy cure to be super thin nor do I want to be super thin. I am 40. I know the score. I know it's harder and more complex than that. I have always been pretty lanky, but obviously now that I turned 40 I need to address this problem. I went from being 6'2" and about 175 to about 200 in the last 10 months. I don't want to be rail thin. I just want to get down to about 178-80

Any help would be great.
