Hello Forum Chaps and Chapesses

Good morning people of the forum. I hope you're well and enjoying this fine weather.

My name is TheMoose and I'm late twenties chap. 6 feet tall and quite broad so am never going to fit right in the middle of the BMI range, but it's just a guide, right!

About 5 years ago I was circa 115kg (was heavier before that). My siblings and I had a family photograph for my mum. Ever since time begun we have had family photos every 5 years and even now we're no longer kids my parents love them so we go through the photo shoot process twice a decade to keep mum happy.

I saw the photos and it was like the rose tinted specs had been lifted - I was a fat bas***d so thought screw this for a game and went on a low carb diet (not zero carb - retained circa 5% carbs). I did well and lost a few kgs. My goal weight was 80kg with the intention of weight management and probably picking up a few GS and hovering around 85kg. I never quite made it, however I got to 81.5kg. I rounded down as I felt i wasn't makings any further progress. At the time, I wasn't doing much exercise. My job means and meant that I'm sat at a desk circa 70% of my time. The rest I am on my feet but not lifting heavy stuff. That weight loss took 6 months to get to 87kg and then a further 4 months to get to where I finished.

I then went into weight management mode and put on a couple of kg and hovered around the 83-84kg mark. I was happy with my weight and how I looked. I went on a holiday with a mate and we road tripped for a few weeks. When we got back I showed my mum the photographs in the same room as the latest family photos were and I was happy with my transformation and the difference in my appearance. This wasn't for anyone else, it was for me.

I started seeing a new girlfriend and all was well. I even managed to maintain my weight during the 'honeymoon period' of dining out often, rich food, good potions etc. my intention was that if I ever headed North of 87.5kg, I'd jump back on the diet for a bit and keep it down. Wasn't required as I never got there.

Then I got ill. I won't bore you with the details - I'd rather not relive that part of the last few years, however rather than loose weight, due to the nature of the illness I put on a load of weight.

As always, day followed night and I did recover and get all better again, however I ended up at approximately 100kg. I tried a low carb diet again, however it didn't seem to work - I only lost 1.5 kg to 98.5kg. I couldn't seem to drop the weight using this diet, however I suspect part of this is due to my lovely girlfriend cooking for me whilst I was ill and continuing to do so once recovered and not being quite so strict on my carb intake.

I have recently tried weight watchers and managed to lose only a tiny bit.

So, today's position:

1. I'm now (relatively) healthy
2. 96.7kg on the scales this morning
3. I have just seen the photos from our road trip and don't like how I've become physically
4. I am now also doing 3-5 hours intense exercise a week (well, I play badminton which I think is moderate intensity but everyone tells me it's intense - I do leave sweating like a pig most sessions!)

So, I've just realised that we're having our next set of portraits done in 7 weeks time and I'd really like to lose weight for them. I know it's tight on the time frame, and whilst I'd love to be able to snap my fingers and be back at 82kg that'd be great, however I'm not sure how I can lose circa 15kg in 7 weeks!

So, on that note, I have to be realistic. I'm not going to get back to where I was, however I'd like to make a big effort to go in the right direction. I know it may well not be pleasant and may take effort but I'm willing to put that in.

What do you lovely forum people recommend as a route forward?

If you got this far, well done and thanks for reading.

Oh and hello :)

TL;DR: Fat fella wants to lose up to 15kg in 7 weeks. How?

Hey, welcome!

I used to follow weight watchers when they had the old system lost about 3 stone, then things went downhill, gained half of it back, tried again on the pro points system last year and well lets just say it didn't work for me :| lol. Which program are you following?

Anyways... this year I have been tracking my calorie consumption on the My Fitnesspal App and I think its great! I only started last Saturday but have done better than I thought in my first week.. I did think about cutting carbs like you mentioned but Pasta and Bread are basically my favourite meals so that was a no go for me /: so I've just cut back on everything massively and exercising every day .. three days a week I do the C25K which is a good app, and the other 4 I do various other exercises, this seems to be working for me. I think you just need to dabble in a few things to see what works best for you!

Also ... I started a diary on here, I log the calories I've had for the day, this stops me from cheating as I know I have to log it on here, maybe you could give that a go?

Good Luck :)

Edit: Oh I forgot ... drink tonnes of water too! I've been trying 2litres everyday and it helps! :D
