Hi Ross,
Welcome! I am a running novice, compared to yourself. I've been running consistently for about 8 months, every other day and my distance is approx 2.5 mi. My diet is pretty healthy consisting of lots of veggies, fruit, complex carbs and lean protein. I usually fast for at least 2 hrs before running or I'll have a small piece of fruit 30 minute before. But every time I run I am so fatigued that it is a struggle to run even that short distance. Can't seem to get over the 2.5 mi hump. Do you have any suggestions? Would appreciate your help !

HI There

Sorry to hear that you are getting fatigue when you run. When you have a target time or distance that you just can't seem to achieve it is one of the most frustrating things ever!

There are a couple of things I can think of that you can try but you have probably thought of everything i am going to suggest yourself.

1) Try eating a bit more before you run. I eat a banana half an hour before I race and it gives me enough energy for anything up to and including a half marathon.

2) Try slowing down your pace by 30-60 seconds per mile. This should mean that you are able to run further as you aren't placing as much stress on your body and therefore shouldn't be as tired.

3) Instead of running every other day you could always switch out a run for a cross training session such as swimming or biking. That gives your body a chance to rest and recover whilst still training your aerobic cardiovascular system that is used when you run.

4) Change your route - A change of scenery always works wonders for my running

5) Run with a friend who is slightly fitter than you - Chatting and competition is always good!

Hope that helps!

Ross

Ross,
Thank you for the wealth of information! I will try a few of your suggestions like eating more (that's always an easy option!), and switching up my routine a bit. I'm sure anything would help b/c I really don't know that much about running-Well, up until now anyway! Appreciate ya!
