Hello Everyone!

Been skinny all my life! Just started eating more and working out to change that! Would love tips. Should I start drinking whey protein shakes?

Hey and welcome to the forum!

My suggestion would be to try to get most of your extra calories from food, and only use protein shakes if you absolutely cannot get the additional calories each day from food. Just my opinion though. Are you doing any weight training? If not, you will likely be just adding fat to your body instead of some muscle.

Thank you!

I started the P90 home workout in December, its pretty much cardio and weight training with free weights. I was injured and on my back for two months before I started it so my body isn't used to anything at the moment. I know I can't get the additional calories from food because my appetite is really small and my metabolism is still pretty high.

Try not to pile a bunch of calories in a few meals. Break it down into about 6 or 7 meals during the day. Pick times of the day where you know you can take 5-10 mins to go to the side, heat it up and eat. Make sure the meals are clean, not pizza 6 times a day. Brown rice, Grilled skinless chicken cut up and some stir fry mix is pretty good. Replace the chicken with Fish whenever during the day. Try and throw a potato in if you can. Utilize different spice as well to keep the same meals each day interesting and new.

Each Day I have the pretty much the same food at the same times and you will get into it and enjoy it after a few days. It does start off a little annoying but once you get to throwing extra stuff in or different flavors you will learn to love it.

If you have 6 500 cal meals a day you will be at 3000 which no matter what your size is going to add mass in some form. Good Luck!!

This is how I eat, and combined with working out I tacked on about 25 pounds of muscle in roughly 4 months. Other than "natural" foods, my only other source of protein was the occasional protein bar I would pick up here and there when I had the money for it.

P90X is a good program for those looking to get in shape too. Are you doing the diet along with the program?

Nope, no diet, sticking to my regular eating habits. I was injured so I'm starting off with P90 instead of P90X for right now. Started the whey protein shake yesterday, only gonna drink it one time a day post-workout. I wanna be the judge of the results of it in a month or two. Hopefully I gain something but my metabolism can be good for 2-3 days for storing the food and then the rest of the week its horrible. Its hard for it to stay consistent
