Hello Everyone!

My name is Bri and I'm 28. I'm very happily married with a 10-year-old daughter. I'm new to the forums, looking for some support from others who are struggling with or trying to lose weight. A little background info about me: I've been obese for about 10 years, and this past year has been a huge life-and-death struggle for me. I have always been considered "extremely healthy" (other than the extra weight) and was set to have weight loss surgery in August of 2012, however 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery I found out I had a large blood clot in my leg. It had moved to both of my lungs and was putting a strain on my heart. I was in the hospital for awhile and told it was a miracle I lived as long as I did with those clots. My surgery was cancelled and I have been on blood thinners since with regular blood checks. Since then, an array of more health issues have been diagnosed from Fibromyalgia to Sleep Apnea. As a 28 year old, it's been extremely scary for me, and I have made the decision that living a life of being sick and tired of being sick and tired is not good enough for me and I won't accept that anymore. My husband, daughter and the rest of my friends and family deserve better than that from me..

With that said, this Sunday, April 14th I am leaving for The Biggest Loser Resort in Niagra, NY for two weeks. If you've ever seen the TV show, it's the Biggest Loser experience with no cameras (thank goodness). I'm nervous but very excited about this new chapter in my life. I look forward to talking with all of you and sharing our successes and shortcomings with one another!

So are you having a version of the "last supper"? I would be planning on eating whatever food I wanted that is the worse for me before I went away there. Probably not the most beneficial method to lose weight, but you are about to be sequestered onto a resort with the sole goal of losing weight! I am so envious of you, yet completely not envious at the same time!

I welcomed you in another thread - but welcome again. It is great that I can see that you have already made one friend here.

Wow - you have had a tough time with a lot of health problems. Losing weight should certainly help the sleep apnea and probably a heap of other things too... being big really does seem to mess up our whole bodies so loads of things are affected that you wouldnt expect to be affected by weight... LOL at least that was what my doctor used to tell me when I was enormous and she was telling me to lose weight...

If you were going to be on tv and there was a massive prize up for grabs you would probably be feeding up now to get an extra big weighing on day 1... High sodium to make you retain water... I once gained over 8 pounds due purely to sodium...

But the big prize is associated with your actual weight loss and improvement in health - so if I were in your shoes I would take the attitude that you might as well enjoy the prize a few days earlier by starting a few days earlier... While at the resort - if your weight loss is not so incredibly high as you see on the show - take comfort that those contestants probably did go very high sodium and the weight loss that you envied was mainly water and not fat...

Use the resort to provide very healthy food and provide you with exercise opportunities... let them provide you with personal trainers to encourage you and other weight losers to give you a competitive element to keep you focused and on track.

Take every advantage from being there - and take some elements home with you so that you stay focused as the holiday ends. No project is going to last just 14 days - but your fortnight away should give a brilliant kick start to your project.

For the record - I'm jealous too... I'd love to go to somewhere like that.

I will advise you to read this link for building your support network here... You may see it in the other thread - but I like to help as many people see it as possible...

Good luck with your project and return to good health.
