Hello,
I'm new to this site (I literally found it less than 10 minutes ago).
I googled "Weight loss support" and I found you.
I've been trying to lose weight for I don't know how long, and I keep getting off track because of school, work and most importantly..desserts. I have a BIG weakness for desserts, I can't help it. I really would like to stop but I always go back to them. I really, really want to lose weight; but people looking from the outside might think that I'm not serious because of my lack of efforts. But I do try to put efforts in it but I keep falling back.
I only need to lose approssimately 15 lbs (it doesn't seem like a lot but it's so hard).
I don't know how to stay focused on my health and about what I put in my mouth.
So, I decided to look for support (I don't have many in real life) and hopefully this site will help.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum :)

I would suggest you start a diary in the diary section where yu will get a lot of support

HI great to lose. Welcome to this very supportive forum.

Do what trus says, its the hub of this forum.

As to your problem, there are two ways of approach. Either give up desserts totally (as i have), or if you think you can eat them in moderation, keep them somewhere in your life.

Whether its daily, weekly, monthly or six monthly is totally up to you.

How much you eat of dessert is the real issue here isn't it. Because i find it so hard to stop myself once i start eating sweet things, I have chosen to quit them altogether.

One way to do it for you if you want ot keep them might be to have them only when you are out at a restaurant or with other people. But frankly i think having some in moderation really takes a lot more strength than going without.

don't get me wrong, i love dessert and i wish i could eat them in moderation.

You have to decide what approach you think you can manage and then commit to it.

Perhaps its a good idea to write down either here or in your new diary, you psychological processes about desserts. You know what makes you go from being moderate to being out of control. blah blah blah. I could do this no trouble but you might not know what i mean. So just start writing about it. You will get feed back from others - especially if you do it in a diary.

The other big prong of your weight loss program needs to be eating healthy foods first in the right quantities. When you eat sweets, it should never be in response to hunger. You should only ever eat healthy low calorie foods in response to hunger. Dessert comes at the end of a meal. Not for a snack or instead of other foods.

iT wouldn't surprise if you have already realised all this. Because desserts are my biggest downfall too. As i said already, its why i have given them up altogether. You may not be ready to quit them as i have done. Most people seem not to be willing to do this. I don't blame them. It seems radical.

But i love my non-dessert foods. I am actually enjoying my food more than ever now that i am not eating desserts.

We all have to find what works for us and when what we try doesn't work, well we have to be adult about it and realise and then try to something else. Maybe even try something a bit confronting. But the way i see, giving up dessert is not much different from giving up cigarettes which i also did - 13 yaers ago.
