I've recently decided to get myself into better condition. I decided that wishing to be thinner wont make it happen. Even wishing really, really hard won't help.
My father passed last year and his size, though not directly responsible, didn't help much. MY sister dieted afterward and lost 100lbs. So far I've given up smoking about 3 months ago. I didn't do it single handed but used Chantix and these little pills really do work but they leave plenty of room for will-power too.
I'm 6'0"/242lbs/lazy. I think I topped out at 253 a couple of months ago.
Recently I've joined a gym with the goal of improving my fitness levels and stamina. I would also like to drop +/-50lbs.
I've been doing plenty of cardio (30-60 minutes/day) and most days doing something with weights. I was advised to do 25x2 for my weight-work. I enjoy the time I spend working out and I hope to build my knowledge of muscle groups swiftly.
As far as diet is concerned, I'm using FitDay and tracking calories. I guess that 2000 is a sensible number to aim for. I have eliminated candy and soda from my diet and cut back on dairy. When making a food choice I'm becoming better at identifying which foods give the best 'bang for buck' but still have a lot to learn. Oh, and I eat at least one piece of fresh fruit per day.
I used to be quite active in school, playing rugby, running track/XC and I loved to swim. I never spent much time in a gym before though. I think my frame size may hole me around 190-200lbs which would be just fine.
My wife is interested in toning. She's 5'5"/125lbs. I'd like to get into a similar bmi range as she is.
Oh, and I have a fair few questions building up and once I've gained a little more experience in gym matters I'll be picking peoples brains.
