Hey everyone! I came here to introduce myself. I'm a 26 yr old mother of two, trying to start my life over. Been a horrible past several years and I have got a lot of weight to lose, was looking over these forums and they look great for support, just what I need! Thanks in advance ;)

Welcome to the forums!! Glad to hear you're moving in a positive direction! I look forward to reading your posts!

Thanks for the welcome!

It's soo nice to find a place where I can feel comfortable talking about things like this. I am currently at 295, the heaviest I've been and it's taking a huge toll on my life. I want to be healthier for my kids and for myself. I feel so uncomfortable going anywhere, I don't feel like I can be myself, I'm always self concious about the way I look and feel. I used to be so skinny when I was a teenager, I don't know how I let this happen, but I want it to change now! Anyone interested in being buddies, giving eachother support or anything? I have a lot to lose and know the inspiration from others will definitely help along the way. Right now I've been trying to read up on things and research what's the best to do but there is soo much different information out there it's very overwhelming and I feel almost lost.

Having much experience in weight loss and conditioning (both for myself and helping others) I can tell you that you HAVE taken the first step. You have exhibited DESIRE.

The next step is one that a lot of people have trouble with, that is FULLY COMMITTING yourself and DEDICATING to the necessary activities and lifestyle changes that will be required.

Check this out on commitment and goals regarding fitness and weight loss:

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks! That's really good advice and I'm going to do everything it says. I really am ready to commit to this. I've gotten rid of all the unhealthy foods in my house, I've stopped drinking soda, even diet soda. I've switched from 2% milk to skim and have only water and crystal light in my fridge. From things that I read, I realized, it's not really a "Diet" I need to go on, it's a lifestyle change. Instead of eating processed foods that lack nutritional value I'm going to buy more fresh foods and lean meats. Make sure bread is whole grain, with no white flours, etc. It's just a healthy way of eating, that I'll be glad to introduce my kids to. Not to mention making sure to get plenty of exercise in. That is actually going to be most difficult for me. My kids are school age now and have summer activities. I'm a single mom so it's really hard for me to workout. I'm on a tight budget as well, I'm kind of stuck there :(

Hi Arienna!

Hey Arienna!

If there is anything I can do to help let me know I am here for everyone and know you guys have my back also!

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

hey arienna,
welcome to the forum! your definitely in the right place since there's lots of useful info especially in the 'stickies' and there's lots of very helpful supportive people here. i'm also still at the beginning of my journey, started at 350 and now at 320...i feel like i've been on it forever but still have a looong way to go. but one thing i've never done is regret on having started my lifestyle change, i now eat healthy and exercise regularly and feel more alive than i have every felt. i had began to resent and hate myself for letting myself get so big...but i don't think like that anymore. i'm learning to love myself and everyday i get a bit of my confidence back, plus the forum is great for support. i'd recommend starting a journal in the 'diary' section, you can write down your daily nutrition/exercise or just vent on a daily basis....and others can view your progress and encourage you and vice versa.

all the best in your journey, WE CAN DO THIS!

I was thinking of starting a journal there, it sounds like a really good idea. Even if no one else reads it, it's nice to jot down your own feelings/thoughts. Great job at losing 30 lbs so far! That's fantastic. I think that starting out will definitely be hardest for me. I'm not really "starting" I guess until after the holiday because I'm going to be gone all weekend and I just know I dont want to start out failing but it will be really hard for me to stick to anything. I'll stick to choosing the healthiest things and stick to no soda and what not, but don't want to start out that way, so officially I'm starting on Tuesday :)

Arienna, I would like to address something specific that you mentioned: "I'm a single mom so it's really hard for me to workout. I'm on a tight budget as well. I'm kind of stuck there :("

I can assure you that keeping in shape and the appropriate amount of exercise will not cost you one dime. I personally use a lot of body resistance training: situps, pushups, pullups, dips, all exercises that really require no money or equipment. You should also be performing about 1/2 hour of cardio exercise per day. This means a brisk walk while elevating your heartbeat to 95+ beats per minute (this depends on age), etc. qualifies. No need to start jogging or running as of yet. This will shed pounds if done consistently.

Remember, nutrition is 60% and exercise/training is 40% of your fitness. If you do one without the other, results will not nearly be satisfying and you will lose interest.

Best of luck, and if I can help, let me know!
