Hello people!

My name is James and I've steadily put on weight for the last two years and now weigh in at 16 stone due to a rubbish diet and minimal exercise. I really really want to lose weight as I'm self-concious about it for the first time in my life and hate it - clothes no longer fitting, stretch marks etc, but I just find healthy eating too hard to stick to. At the moment my girlfriend and I have started eating Weight Watchers stuff or cheapo equivalents like Tesco Healthy Living, but I still find myself eating more than I should. It's like it's an addiction or something. I used to go to the gym but hardly do any exercise now. I think my main problem is being too confused about what I need to follow, so I was wondering if you guys could help me set up a simple plan I can stick to. If it's there in black and white I may actually start to drop some of this weight off! I can't afford the gym right now so am looking for some easy exercise I can do for free.

Some details, if it helps:

Age: 23
Sex: Male
Waist size: 38
Height: 5 ft 11 in
Weight: 16 stone
Alcohol consumption: 1 can cider per day on average (may need to be reduced!)

Many thanks!

Given that you quoted your weight in stones, I'm guessing you're in the UK? I spent many years there and you're in luck...since you have the NHS you can visit your GP and get lots of booklets on healthy eating, weight loss, etc. I still sometimes refer to a nutrition guide that I got from an NHS GP about 5 years ago, it's pretty helpful. If your GP isn't helpful or supportive...find one that is. Unlike us Americans you can use your health system for free, be it for weigh-ins, health checks, etc. Some surgeries even have a dedicated "weight loss nurse". In short, it's a resource you are already paying for...so why not exploit it? :coolgleamA:

BTW...for my fellow Americans, 16 stone is 224 lbs and for everyone else, it's 101.6 kg. 1 stone = 14 lbs = 6.35 kg.
