Here's my story. I'm about to turn 40 on June 11th, I'm married for almost 6 yrs.. I am 5'11" and weigh 241# right now. When I was 18, I was 135#, had to gain weight to get into USAF, went to Germany from 1989-1991, came back at 185#, in 1996, moved to Bahamas to work as civilian at U.S. Navy base, got to 250#, left there and came to West Palm Beach, lost a little bit of weight, changed jobs, got down to 198#, then in Feb. 2009, got fired. Felt real guilty and stopped eating, lose some more weight and muscle mass. started eating again but didn't evercise. Well, here's why I'm here. Last month, april 27th to be exact, I was asked to come to my father-in-law's warehouse( classic cars) for a special project, well I found out that I WAS THAT SPECIAL PROJECT and he told me that I WAS TOO FAT TO HIRE. He weighed me, 244# and set up a plan to lose 60 # by Jan. 1st. Now a little look into my father-in-law. former U.S. Navy, Vietnam vet, CEO, COO of numerous cellular companies. He's very anal anout EVERYTHING and it ALL HAS TO BE PERFECT AND HIS WAY. So, now i'm " under the bus ", he doesn't believe that my waise right now is a 36 and baggy. Now if you saw me, you probably wouldn't think I look that bad. But now I am in a spot where if I don't lose the 60#, that with the pressure, I will be a FAILURE at this. My wife and her mom don't like this treatment at all. I will lose the weight but don't put uneeded pressure on me, I'm already dealing with not working. I've sent out and applied for at least 150 jobs since being fired and only 3 interviews. Anyhow, I hope to meet some good people here.

Hello Raysfan!

Welcome to the Boards.

First of all I would ignore what your father in law says and thinks. Weight loss is completely up to you to acheive. However, it is good to get a kick up the butt to get you to notice that you are overweight and need to do something about it. However, no amount of nagging will get you to do anything unless you want to do it yourself.

What are your plans to lose weight?

Good luck!

my plans on losing weight

I started walking everyday since May 2nd and have walked every day exept for once. Since monday, i'm walking around 1.5 miles a day at least. I walk in the morning, I also wear a baseball pullover so I can get some more sweating going on. At times I have walked around 2.5 miles depending if I also go walking at the mall with my wife. I only problem is that I've arthritis in my knees for yrs. After a little bit more, i'm going to start weight trainging. I've been doing very good with my eating habits, my wife and her mom do weight watchers and I have been steerign myself in that direction. Like, I've said, I have to deal with my father-in-law. He is very controlling and can make you feel badly at any times. I have to learn to not feel bad if my weight is not fall off fast enough. From him, I needhim to say good things and not bad things. I'm sticking to good diet and exercise and the weight will start to come off more on a regular basis.

Good on you for incorporating exercise into your daily routine. Sounds like you are heading in the right direction food and exercise wise. Do you count your calorie intake? I find that very useful indeed as I tend to consume too many calories if I don´t keep track of things.

As for your father in law. Just ignore him. In any case it´s not healthy to lose too much weight in a short space of time as you will only pile it back on again in no time at all. It is better to lose weight at a steady pace through a calorie controlled eating and regular exercise. A starvation diet will not work. Tried it before and only piled on the weight back on again.

Good luck!!
