Hello everyone, nervous newcomer here!

Hi there,

I'm 18, 5' 4'' and weigh 237 pounds.

Probably like some others on this great forum, I've been in denial for far too long about the way my body is. I'm either going to University next September or the September after that, and after much soul searching have decided that a lot of my anxiety about the future is to do with my self-confidence in the way I look.

So, I'm finally taking a stand and am doing something about it! :hurray:

I'm going to see a doctor about it this Friday, to attain sensible goals etc. But for now I've searched the net and have seen that for my height and frame, the ideal weight for me is around 140 pounds.

The only person I've really spoken to about this is my mum, and we are going to start cycling and swimming every week, as well as buying the right foods. (My biggest problem is eating the wrong foods, and too much of it!)

I'm really serious about this, and after reading through this forum, it seems like the best possible place for me to keep going with support from everyone here!

Thank you for your time, I know this is a long post! :cheers2::waving:

I'd like to wish you luck in your journey to gain confidence and become a healthier you. You'll find that successful weight loss is a great confidence builder. 140 lbs sounds like a solid long-term goal and to me and looks like you will be setting mini-goals along the way which is a great thing to do. I would recommend you try and involve more then just your Mom. It really helps to get motivation from everyone that surrounds you. Though I think I do understand where you're coming from, my parents were the first ones I involved and they were amazing help.

Good luck! I know what you mena about the wrong food s and too much! :)

I wish you all the luck and sucess in the world. what college are you planning on attending. My one daughter goes to Marshall in WV and my other is hoping for PennState, but already is accepted to carlow.. so not sure what she is going to do.

Good for you! This is going to be one of the best decisions you've ever made, and going to the doctors is a great idea as well. :)
