Hi Everyone!

Here I am hoping that this method of dieting with the support of other individuals in the same boat as I am - will do the trick.

Still learning how to use this site so if anyone has tips I would love to hear them!

My goal is to lose 40 lbs by Sept 1, 2009. Anyone out there do it yet and if so - what's the secret to your motivation and drive? How do you keep your hands out of the refrigerator and pantry when every cell in your body screams hunger/boredom/frustration?

Take care everyone and good luck to you!

My motto: One Day at a Time.

I think first thing first; you need to identify you 'whys'.

Why do you want it?

What does it mean to you?

What would failing mean to you?

Where do you place value?

What do you find pain/pleasure in?

This blog I posted a bit ago may be of some interest to you:

You're right, one day at a time. Here's my trick; turn your diet into a lifestyle change. It's ok to have a candybar in moderation. In 10 weeks, I have lost 17 lbs at least. I just cut down my portion sizes and choose healthier meals. I also mix weight training with cardio. Muscle mass will burn calories.

I set aside one cheat day where I eat whatever I want. 10 weeks into my lifestyle change, I still eat healthier on these days because it feels better. You'll see what I mean in the middle of your journey. if you have any specific questions like what I eat, recipes, my workouts...let me know.

::beerchug: My motto is One Step at a Time. :D

You can do it, I can do it, we can all do it. That's what drives us, being able to do it and reach your goals. Being a strong individual, being happy with yourself and being proud of yourself for being determined.

What keeps me motivated? Being in a wedding and wanting a bikini.

I always make sure to have a picture of what I used to look like, and imagine what I want to look like. I also ask myself why am I doing this? Why because both of my grandparents died of overweight related issues, and health complications. I want to lead the most productive and healthy lifestyle I can. I want to inspire and help others do the same. I also want to feel good about myself. =) If you put ur mind to it, you can achieve ur goal.

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for all of your input - I feel supported already!

Steve - you pose some good questions -

Why do you want it?

I want to feel better about the way I look and lose the self conscious feeling.

What does it mean to you?

SUCCESS!!

What would failing mean to you?

Failure - less strong than i should be as a human.

Where do you place value?

This is an interesting question - what do you mean by that?

What do you find pain/pleasure in?

This one is good - I really do find pleasure after a fine meal. I'm an excellent cook and I entertain weekly. I love to eat in resturants - so the trick for me is to learn how to stop eating the extra snacks, grazing at night, and stick to breakfast lunch and dinner.

When do you set a cheat day aside? Once a week, month....? Seems like a good idea.
Congrats on your weight loss. 17 lbs in 10 weeks is healthy and steady - are you hungry - do you mind if i ask what you eat?

There are a few different sites where you can make your ticker, the one I use is tickerfactory.com. When you create one it will give you a code that you can paste into the "edit signature" option.

Hope that helps!

I set aside my cheat day once a week. I eat normally, I just watch my portions and stop when I am satisfied yet not completely full. Breakfast, I alternate between Oatmeal with nuts mixed in and yogurt with fruit and with cheerios. Lunch I alternate between low sodium soup and a small salad and a sandwhich with fruit. Inbetween breakfast and lunch I have a small piece of fruit like an apple or banana. Dinner varies. Last night my wife and I had a taco salad. I skipped the sour cream and had extra lettuce and tomatoes. I've steamed fish and broccoli and served it with couscous, I've baked chicken, grilled steak... Like I said, it's all about maintaining that nirvana between satisfaction and feeling stuffed. If I feel a craving, I don't ignore it. I have a small supply of candy at my house. If I feel a craving coming on, I have a very small piece. This way, my craving is satisfied and won't come back in the form of binging. Make sense?

Thanks - I'm gonna try that!
