Hello - Brand New and Awkward

KangarooGirl

New member
I am brand new to this site and just moved out of state with a boyfriend leaving all my friends and family behind. I am obviously looking to lose weight but since moving I lack the motivation. I don't want to take my dogs for a walk, I don't want to go outside, sigh. I just like laying in bed with my laptop reading Perez Hilton. I am definitely awkward meeting new people and I find posting anything on forums intimidating. Hopefully I won't wuss out and not push the submit button.

Hey! Congrats on hitting submit!!! :rotflmao:

If you need motivation, you've come to the right place. Just look at some of the diary's and before/after pic threads. If some of them don't motivate you I don't know what will!

But welcome to WLF anyways, and I hope you have a great weight loss journey.

Well you have come to the right place for motivation. Like you I was a bit nervous about posting on a weight loss forum at first considering i had over 111 lbs to lose to get down to my goal of 150 lbs. So it was quite intimidating. However I have read and met some great people on this forum who are very supportative and are a great motivation for me. So i sure hope this helps you out. Check out some of the diaries and like the other poster said the before and after photos and that should help motivate you.

Good luck and hope you continue on posting on this wonderful forum.

You can do it!

I love to read too, what kind of books do you like reading?

Welcome to the forum! :)

Hope you find that motivation. Laying around and relaxing is great in moderation. You've got to get up and get moving!!!

key kangaroo !

im new here too. and just be reaing your post, i can identify with you alot. i moved to america from england to live with my boyfriend. I have no friends here other than his, and i spend weekday from 2pm till 2am all alone. We have a dog, and i force myself to walk him atleast once a day. I say force because its SO hot outside, alot hoter than england!

After i do my daily cleaning (clean freak) i snuggle up in bed with my laptop, a few diet soda's and water and the tv. Its sad, and its a lifestyle id really like to do more with.

Anyway if you want someone to talk to, please feel free. Id love to make some friends in this forum community <3

Yes, welcome to the forum. I feel impressed to say wow! You both said after you moved, leaving YOUR life behind i.e. friends, family, familiar surroundings, job perhaps to be with your boyfriend you are experiencing a slump, lack of motivation, depression. You have given up a lot to be with this guy without any commitment. Neither of you want that? I hope this forum can help you overcome the obstacles. I can't help think your mind is trying to tell you something? Kathy:hug2:

Thank you, I know you can do it too! I love to read anything I can get my little grubby paws on. I always joke that I am an obsessive compulsive reader. Once I start a book I can't stop until it's finished, ignoring most everything else. It's hard to snap out of it. I just pick up various books from the library but one of my favorites has been The Five People You Meet in Heaven. The most recent book I read was the last Harry Potter, just haven't seemed to have any time to get the library lately.

Thank you for your support. But I am more depressed because I left my best friend behind that I got to see at work almost every day. About my boyfriend, he was my high school boyfriend for about 2 years before we went to separate colleges, he went to indiana and I stayed in ohio. We started dating again about a year ago, and after graduating I wanted to move and experience different things in life. We do have a commitment to each other, but I don't see marriage anywhere in my near future, a mutual decision. :) I transferred in my job and def do not mesh well in my new location with anyone so I was just looking for a way to meet new people and better myself. Unfortunately when I get bored I like to bake cookies, cakes, pies, you name it. We have both gained weight from my baking. :rotflmao:

Cool! I haven't read the 5 people you meet in Heaven yet, but I know what it's about. And they had a made for tv movie on not too long ago - not as good I'm sure.

I guess my favorites are mysteries, but I can read anything - not too much sci-fi though, can't keep the names straight on most of those. LOL

How's the weight loss effort going? Do you exercise?

Have a great weekend!

Aww. You sound depressed. To spend an entire day reading Perez Hilton would depress anyone!

I went through a similar sort of thing almost 2 years ago... after Hurricane Katrina (we lost our house to the flooding), we moved to Texas for my husband's new job. We left behind all our friends and even my two older children decided not to come with us, but remained in New Orleans to live with their dad. So we came here with only the little bit we scavenged from our house and our 3 year old. We didn't know anyone in this place, and since I stay home with our son (a big change for me since I'd always worked outside the home), I found myself with way too much time on my hands, no friends, etc.

But, don't let the depression get the best of you. Get out and walk those dogs and think about all the people in the world who are worse off than you are. Think of this as a new opportunity. Just my two cents. Good luck to you!
