Hello America!

what did that person meant by you were wasting away?Who is he/she?

You seem very healthy, sporty and who would I be to tell you wht to do as I haven't started to lose weight(well a bit!)

Do you think that by doing some sport, it helped you to shift the weight?

Did exercise help me lose weight? Sure, without a doubt. It burnt calories - that I know for sure; it may have helped my 'metabolism' - but most of all, it helped me gain confidence. I never did sport - even as a boy, now I can run/jog, cycle, lift weights etc...

so how did you start? I am not a big fan of sport myself.. I do like yoga and that is what I will start with and walking.

I don't like sport either - at least not competitive sport. I might be a bloke, but I don't like football, racing, boxing, cricket, rugby etc - never has appealed to me.

I started out by walking Wolfy when he was a little puppy. I also started Tai Chi - but had to give it up because the slow movements and long standing would hurt my back (I suffer from back pains). Later I started running short distances during our dog walks. I would also often cycle to work or for recreation. When it got too hot for Wolfy during the summer, I would go jogging on my own.

As I lost weight, so I got fitter, as I got fitter, so I could exercise more. Later I joined a gym. However I soon lost interest in gym 'cardio' - I prefer running outdoors with Wolfy, but I found that I enjoyed strength training with weights. Now, I aim to try and run with Wolfy twice per week (between 2.5 and 5 miles each run), and to strength train at the gym three times per week. I don't always achieve this, but at the very least, Wolfy makes sure that I take him for a walk everyday.

Its all about finding out what activities you enjoy doing - so that they continue post weight loss. I found out that I enjoyed walking, running, lifting weights, and a little cycling :) I never would have believed it until last year!

I can't imagine myself running, I tried a long time ago and I wsn't overweight and I still struggle for the 2 minutes I ran!
I would love to have a dog but it's imposible at the moment...

Exercise

Hi Sandrine,
I also recently started losing weight and don't particularly like going to the gym. Here are some of the things I do to "me remuer":

- walk at least 20-30 minutes a day (I live in New York City and there are plenty of opportunities to walk. Usually, I take the subway to the stop before mine and then walk.)

- dance for 20-30 minutes every other day (listening to my favorite dance music on my iPod)

- take the stairs instead of the elevator.

I am reading the book "French Women Don't Get Fat." Have you heard about it? It became very popular in the U.S. at one point.

Good luck with your weight loss!

Hi Marina!
Ok before starting, how do you know"me remuer"?I am very impressed!!!;) Are you American? I would love one day to go and visit New York, it really looks like a great city!

I really need to "me remuer!!"Dancing in mylounge I do it , walking I am working on it( i live about 25 minutes walking from work)especially as Spring time is coming! I need to do yoga(i have the mat, the belt, the DVDs, so no excuse really!).

May I ask how much you want to lose?

Thanks for your nice email!

Nice talking to you

I am originally from Bulgaria and have lived in New York for the last 10 years. It’s an amazing place and you should definitely visit it (maybe as a reward once you reach your weight loss goal):) . My husband and I have a great appreciation for French culture, language and food. We travel to France frequently. He speaks French and I am also trying to learn it by watching TV5, reading, etc. So, this is how I knew about “me remuer.”

I would like to lose 25lbs which I have gained in the last 3-4 years. I started “eating less” right after Christmas and was hoping to reach my goal by Easter but as time passes by I see that this is not realistic. If I can lose another 7 lbs in the next 7 weeks to Easter, I will be proud of myself.

Good idea! I am not quite sure I am going to visit NY that soon then!;)
Do you miss Bulgeria? Lots of English people go there on holidays. I am sure it's a beautiful country.Do you go back sometimes? Is your husband Bulgarian as well? How come he can speak French?

You seem quite slim that is why i will take you more time but I am sure if you are constent, the weight will drop off and you will be like a Mermaid in time for Summer!

What do you do in NY?
Have a nice evening Marina!

Hi Sandrine

There is so much I miss about Bulgaria – my grandma, extended family, close friends I grew up with, the mountains, the Black Sea, the overpowering smell of the linden trees, the creamy yogurt, the cafes, the house I grew up in… It is a beautiful country and I love it. I try to visit every year and feel very “American” while I am there. On the other hand, when I am in the US, I feel very “Bulgarian.” Does that happen to you in France?

I have had two very bad days and dread getting on the scale tomorrow morning… I was under a lot of stress lately and snacked injudiciously and I am sure I will pay for that sooner or later.

Thanks for the mermaid comparison – I will remember it. If I could only get into my “skinny” jeans by summer time and pull up the zipper I will be ecstatic. ;)

Hello America? What about the rest of the world then? :D

A bit late I know, but welcome and good luck with it. :)

Hello the world!

Hi katie!
Sorry at first I thought that was an american website! I am French living in England so believe me I know a lot about the rest of the world!:p
Thanks for the welcome! I am trying to be healthy and drop the bad attitude that I have towards food before being really on a diet!!I don't believe in diets so let's say before I lower down my calories intake in order to lose weight!

Absolutely!"!!I totaly agree with you! I have never felt so French since I have been living in England!!
It ;s funny because when I am in France noone is allowed to speak badly about GB and vise versa. However, I am allowed to criticise either!!LOL Only French people living in England are allowed to say something bad about any country. It's like you are the only to be allowed to criticise your own family, noonelse is even if they are right!!!

I miss food, drinking a coffee on a cafe terrace, seeing my friends and family, seeing the Pyrenees, having an aperitive before aving a long meal where we drink and talk and eat and talk etc..that lasts ages...

But at the same time I wouldn't be able to live without England and going back to France would mean to be unemployed...

I have not been good recently with food and I am very angry with myself...

Take care Marina

hello and welcome! =) i'm sure walking is a good start to ur exercise routine.. sports definitely helps in weight loss.. just that don't overeat after exercising.. i lost a lot of weight cycling everyday a few years back.. i cycled around my neighbourhood for about 45mins.. i also went running - in school and also during my free time.. but i was on a crash diet then, for about a year.. lost a lot of weight rapidly.. but when i stopped exercising and started to binge cos i deprived myself of all the normal food, i started to put back on all the weight.. and here i am now.. haha.. anw now im taking dance classes, i also joined a gym so i'll be motivated to exercise.. occassionally i also go kayaking and running with my friends.. all the best to u! =D

you obviously did a lot of sport whereas it just doesn't come naturally to me!:p Well I guess I will have to force myself. Funny enough I always come up with a good(or not!)excuse like at the moment it rains every day!Mind you I could still do the yoga part. It's not that I don't like it , it just I find it very hard as I am so unfit...
Anybody has encountered that problem of being so unfit?
Thank you very much for your welcoming and your encouragement, very nice of you...
