Hello :)

Javier here, aka STUFF.

I'm a 33 year old man, 5'8" and I weight 370Lbs.

I don't really know anything about exercise and I don't really know anything about dieting. What I do know is that I've been bigger all my life and I'm just tired of it.

Last week when I came back from a work trip I was at 381. At one point in my life I was doing the not eating too many calories thing and I did go from 398 to 365. Some stuff happened in my life and I just kind of lost track of everything I was doing and didn't really continue.

On August 1st of this year I lost my mother in an accident and ever since then I've just felt very lost, confused, alone. I realize I need to make a lot of changes in my life and losing this weight has to be one of them.

So last week I decided to start taking this seriously again. Doing the same thing I was doing before, eating just about anything but in much smaller portions. Asking myself if I really need to eat something or if I just want to eat it. Also trying to take advantage of the good things about me, like the fact that I actually prefer drinking water instead of soda or juice.

But right now I'm basically just looking at calories. I don't know anything about anything else, people tell me calories will only take me so far because then my body will get used to less calories. So I'm not sure exactly what the best way to go is.

I do plan to incorporate some more walking later but right now I do think I will need to lose some weight first because when I walk for too long I end up hurting my ankles.

Anyway, any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks!

Hey Javier, welcome to the forum!

Just start slow and do what you can. Even if you can only walk for a few minutes at a time, that is a good starting place!

Thank You!

I do have a Dog that I walk daily. So I will certainly keep trying to get her walks to be a bit longer each week.

Good thing is I know this will take time. I am certainly not expecting it to happen overnight. And I am indeed a believer that some weeks will be better than others. I know I can't let myself get discouraged if any week I didn't lose weight or even if I gained weight. I just have to deal with the reality and keep on trying. There is not much logic in getting upset at what happened anyway.

But I do look forward to getting to know more of the people here and see how we can all help each other :)

Hey man

Nice to meet you.

Walking the dog is a great way to exercise and is exactly what I do.

I began by reducing my portion sizes by half and trying to become more mindful. For instance i'd eat 1 muffin instead of 2 but eat it slowly and think about the flavours rather than speed eating.

Let me know if you need more help.

Mark
