Hi!

My name is Kristi, I am a 43 year old Mom and I am sick of being overweight! I have struggled with the weight loss thing since about 15 and over the course of the last year I have seen myself slide further and further away from any kind of loss, I seem to keep gaining/losing the same cycle over and over again.

I need some kind of motivation, something constant, someone screaming in my ear!

Help!

There is a saying by Friedrich Nietzsche which I'm particularly fond of.

"He who has a strong enough why can bear almost any how"

Figure out what your "why" is, write it down and remind yourself of it in moments of weakness.

You'll soon find out what's truly more important to you.

Hello and welcome!

I believe that there are many kinds of motivation. There is a short-term motivation, for example, "I need to lose 10 pounds by my Birthday, or vacation, or cousin's wedding". As a result, you lose those 10 pounds and then you gain them back, because you programmed yourself just for the sort-term success. There could be a bigger motivation - motivation not only to lose weight, but to become healthy overall, to significantly improve the quality of living, your heath and well-being. For every person there could be something in life that would motivate him or her the most:for example, to become healthier and more active, so he/she could play active game with children. It could be anything, and you probably know the best what would motivate you. Just make sure that you program yourself for a long-term success, for something bigger than just plain weight loss. Good luck!

Hi Kristi,

I'm not very good at this, my Grandma (very smart woman) lol. Told me, don't think about lossing 50lbs... Think about starting small. If you choose a weight to loss that is to high, you get overwhelmed. And will quit.... it sounds like good advice to me. Example I said to myself i'm going to clean my house from top to bottom tomorrow.... woke up looked around and said screw that I don't even know where to start..... Then I woke up one day said, today i'm going to organize my kids room. That day I did it, and then had sooo much energy that I even did my basement. Anyways my goal should be to lose about 55lbs right now and if i had to choose a deadline i'd want may 22..... But my goal is to lose 4lbs a month and i'm staying with it til may. And then decide what to do from there. If i only loss 16lbs its a good start and not overwhelming, I talked to my doctor first before I started. To see if I had an overactive or underactive thyroid.... cause that would make weight loss impossible. I don't thank goodness for that. She said " If your serious about lossing weight and keeping it of, try to only loss about a lb or 2 a week...

Or i'll get the yo-yo affect get overwhelmed and quit." But in your statement you don't say exactly what your doing to try to lose weight....diet, exercise, both. I'm not dieting alot, just taking out all sugars like pop and sugar in my tea. Not drinking beer. Going to drink 3- 8oz glasses of water a day, and two cups of Green tea aday. Cutting of all fats of my meats and taking smaller portions. And working out at least twice a week with tummy crunches and twists and rowing on a rowing machine. And sitting and standing up straight as much as possible.....If you need someone to tell you in your ear. I don't know if i can do that but everytime i'm on here i'll check in see how your doing and we can go from there...............lol I need motivation to so don't be shy say hello sometimes

Hi Kristi,

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to forums in general. I like what Heavy Mama 22 said.

I wish I had known about this support system when I was trying to lose. I am in maintenance mode now and I have to say that I think the motivation factor is even harder than when I was trying to lose. I had a clear goal in mind when I was losing and I was that voice screaming in my ear every night when all I wanted was to get out of bed and raid the fridge. I still hear that voice holding me back now but then there is a little voice saying "ah go ahead...you already lost the weight one night won't hurt." Whereas when I was losing I was actually motivated by the scale. I couldn't wait for Monday mornings when I would weigh myself to see the results. But now the results are just a stagnant scale. However, if I have a bad day or week I don't panic because I know that it's possible. I have maintained my loss for 3 years now.

Don't worry!!! No matter how much of a struggle it is you will be able to do it! Never give up and not only do you need a clear goal but you need clear boundaries. I suggest you make a list of things to change like Heavy Mama 22 did. You can't expect to change everything at once because that is only going to make you feel like it is impossible.

I have a full arsenal of nutritional advice that I am always willing to share. My husband is a chiropractor and I give a free weight loss seminar at our office to his patients periodically. I've done my homework and I am living proof. If you want give me some ideas of what you are eating/drinking in a typical day. I can suggest some minor changes that may help.

Take it one day at a time. BTW to Big Mama 22...that's how I clean my house too...one toilet one day and a load of laundry the next!

Hi there,

I think you have found a great place here. It can be an overwhelming and lonely road trying to lose weight. But start small, and think of it not that you are trying to lose weight, but that you are trying to change habits...start off by incorporating a little exercise in every day- nothing too big, but something you know you'll keep up with, like a walk after dinner. And be conscious of your food choices. I try and ask myself, "do you REALLY want to eat this?" every time I snack or am choosing a meal.

As a mom, I would imagine you are really busy. When I know I am busy, the thing that helps me the most is planning my meals...because if I don't plan, I know I won't make healthy choices.

Losing weight isn't easy, fun, or fast...but it makes it all the more satisfying when you do drop a few pounds, or fit into clothes you haven't been able to wear for awhile.

You can do this! And you can use this forum as an excellent way to get support and advice!

Try creating a weight loss diary to track your food/meals and exercise every day. If you do this, you can see what you can change little by little, and will help you keep accountable for your choices!

You got this!
