Heavy Mama 22's Fight

I cried today, told a family member I had joined this website. Told her I wanted to loss weight, Told her my weight, and she said "185 ain't that bad, You look good the way you are" And I started to ball, I look ok. Maybe, with clothes on. But I don't look good, at all to me. And thats what I wanted to say but didn't cause I couldn't type with tears in my eyes. I have a 4 year old Daughter, they say kids say the funniest thing's. She saw me getting dressed one day, and said ewwww thats gross. I shrugged it off. Then another day she told me my fat a** was in her way. I know, she's only 4. But wow, that just hurt. Then my sister has a big mirror beside her toilet, yuck. But you can see your side profile while your sitting. I was sooo grossed out with myself I started to get teary eyed. I told her off. Said why in the hell would you put a mirror, beside your toilet. I said thanks I needed that ego boost.

Anyways I can't stand crying anymore or being disgusted about my weight. I'm on this site to find new ways and exercises I can do to loss this extra 50lbs. I'm not trying to loss the whole 50 right away. My goal is to loss about 16 to 20lbs at least by May. I don't want to set a high goal, it could get overwhelming. And my diet, hahaha. Don't know what else I can change. I have 2 cups of coffee when I get up, 2tsps coffeemate in it and 2 tsps of sugar. After that I was drinking dr. pepper off and on all day, stopped that. Drinking water now. 2- 600ml bottles a day. I only usually eat once a day. But not sure what to eat instead. Just a medium supper. and little snacks threw the day.... always verys. Leftovers usually..... I can't afford to buy big shopping list of foods. I only make about 750$ a month. Sooo fruits and veggies aren't always in the house. Anyways if you have any ideas on whats a better diet (affordable) let me know.

Congrats on the beginning of your journey. It sounds like you have some good long and mid term goals already and taking the initial step of swapping in water for soda is fantastic. I hear you on kids being brutal. My three year old daughter has quite a lot of fun slapping my sizeable belly and watching it jiggle...

Combining exercise with small changes to your eating habits should get you going in no time. After the first few days you should start to feel better and notice a difference in energy levels. Imagine it's pretty cold in Winnipeg this time of year but short walks outside and exercises like sit ups, crunches and any other exercise that you can do inside all help.

I'm not sure on a full eating plan but here are a couple of ideas that might help.

Keep a food journal for a few days and post your meals to your diary here. Once you see and take note of the foods you're eating you may start to see places where you can swap out one food for another. In some cases, (like the water instead of soda) you'll be winning twice as it's both cheaper and healthier.

Other small changes like reducing the amount of sugar you put in the coffee add up over time. I'm not suggesting that you make any drastic change but if you gradually reduce the amount of sugar/whitener you may find it easier to change. Over the course of a year or so I managed to go from 2 cream 2 sugar down to 1 cream 1 sugar, 2 milk 1 sugar, then 2 milk no sugar. Over time, I found that I no longer craved the sweetness and actually prefer coffee without sugar at this point. Maybe start by trying 1.5 tsps sugar in your coffee and see if you notice a big difference in taste.

Brown rice is fairly low cost per serving, will last a long time and the additional fibre helps you feel full longer.

Frozen veggies can be more nutritious than fresh and cost quite a bit less. Veggies are definitely the weakest point in my diet so hopefully someone else will have additional ideas for this.

Not my best day, and i'm not giving up.

total cals for day: 1418.5 cals

Doesn't sound all that bad really. We all slip from time to time and the important thing is to wake up the next day and try to do slightly better.

Even though there might have been a few hundred extra calories between the beer and the pepsi, overall it looks like you got a nice mix of healthy foods in there as well. Try to focus on how much better today was compared to some of the other days in the past month/year.

Focus on the positives and use the occasional mistake as motivation to stick with the plan.

Dropping the soda Dr Pepper and Pepsi will save you so many calories, check out how many are in just 250ml bottle, it's a lot of "empty" calories.

You don't necessarily have to switch to something boring like water, water is nice and healthy but if you have a sweet craving then drink Pepsi Max, that stuff helped me lose weight, have a sweet tooth and really crave soda sometimes and that stuff is like 1 calorie per 250ml bottle which is nothing, you can chug that stuff by the galon I swear and it won't set back your dieting efforts, its also one of the nicer tasting sugar free sodas, sugar free Fanta is probably the next best.

Well, the weekend. I didn't do as good. Got in a fair bit of exercise, but I had alot of beer. Weighted myself last night, and I've lost 3lbs to 4lbs. On saturday night I had some beer's and went out for a romantic night with my husband. My supper wasn't all healthy but it was a little more balanced.,..... It's been a year since me and my husband have had a night to ourselves. As of today, i'm going as full force as I can with this. On the weekend I told my husband about my dieting and well he's rude. He laughed at me and said good luck. He can't be so ignorant, but rudeness is making me want to prove him wrong. I WILL DO THIS!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the weight loss! :hurray:

Great attitude to take hubby's comments as motivation, after a few weeks once he sees your commitment and the results I'm sure his tune will change. In the meantime, keep working on the meal planning, figuring out long and short term goals and finding ways to fit exercise into your daily routine.

Anyways.. one of the most important things you can do for yourself is work out your caloric intake.. you need to know how many calories, on average, you should be eating per day to lose weight.

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm For example.. I tried to put your details in myself, but I'm not sure how old you are. Knowing that will help you a buttload in knowing what you need to eat to drop weight. Click the link, input your details and feel free to report back here!

Not eating enough means your body will go into survival mode.. due to the lack of food, it presumes you are at risk of starvation, and so begins holding on to every calorie it can. Muscle is burned instead of fat and your metabolism slows to a crawl. It's REALLY important to get the right amount of calories into yourself to prevent this - you have to eat to lose weight! Generally speaking, you'll want to be losing about 1-2lbs a week for your best chance of success. Yes, it's slow, but it means your body can adjust and you're less likely to regain the weight easily. Also, your scales will vary from day to day - it helps to weigh yourself at the same time of day each day, but it really depends on how much fluid you've had or if you just ate or just exercised. That's why most people choose to weigh themselves first thing in the morning before they get dressed.

Anywyas.. best of luck to you, you seem to have the right idea! We're also living on a budget here, (boyfriend is veggie..) and are getting most of our fruit and veggies from a small Lidls.. there's less overall choice in the store, which means we're less likely to buy stuff we don't need. :D The EXPENSIVE fruits and vegs, like berries, we buy as bags of frozen instead. Brown rice and beans are cheap and easy as well. This, for eg, is my boyfriends mealplan from a few days ago.. I choose to write our stuff into a wordpad file, but others are more organised and post their meals on the website every day - which I think is actually much better! Anyway:

Breakfast: Special K cereal with skimmed milk (0% fat). Organic peanutbutter on wholegrain bread x 2. Green tea.
Snack: 2 x cucumber and tomato sandwiches (brown bread).
Lunch: Carrot gratin. Larabar. Fresh orange juice. Grapes with natural yogurt.
Dinner: Salad – Spinach, black beans, yellow pepper, spring onions, small sprinkling of walnuts and dried cranberries, tablespoon olive oil.

Good luck!

Wow thank you sooo much crymlyn!!!!!!!! I didn't even know where to go to find a calorie calculator........ for Maintenance it came up with 1844, for Fat Loss 1475 and Extreme Fat Loss it came up with 1464. I don't even know what i'm at right now...... for lossing using this calculator. But i'm willing to give it a shot.

But i'm assuming it would be good with only trying for the 1475 cal's aday..........

Exercised today: Warm up: 5X hip raise, 5X pushups (knees). 5X Lying straight hip extensions! 20 row's on a rowing machine..... my added in exercise. Main fat-loss workout: 8X hip raise, 15 second plank, 10X straight leg squat, 5X per leg Bird-Dog, 8X pushups (knees) and 10 second's each side; side plank. I feel sooo shaky right now, and tense. Hope thats a good sign!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Heavy Mama22. It sounds like you're doing awesome.

Diet and exercise take a lot of fortitude and patience. I have hated counting calories and tried losing weight with health problems for years. I've tried so many diets, but now I think it's actually easier to count calories than do some drastic diet. You can count calories on a budget. Most diets end up requiring expensive foods. I read Eat To Live once and tried eating all of the vegetables and fruits and I actually ended up feeling quite weak on it. I think my nutrients just got out of balance and I needed some protein and grains. The good thing I got from it was that I eat a lot more veggies and fruits now than I ever did before (when we can afford them.)

I don't think I'll ever do a drastic diet again. They're just too painful for me. But the calorie counting isn't so bad and if you tend to eat similar foods over again you get an idea of how many calories are in them. I'm still measuring a lot of stuff, but I write it down every day in a notebook and then if I eat the same food again I have it in my notebook for reference to check the calories again (like for say...home made tacos).

Way to go on the exercise too! I need to learn to like exercise. I am really out of shape and such a weakling!

I'm going to have my tossed salad and broil a chicken breast or poach it. I need new simple recipes to cook for the family I think. One's that aren't going to require me going to the store and buying stuff all the time..........if anyone has any good idea's. My husband is very picky and so is my daughter they don't eat veggies...... and fish or liver isn't an option.

Febuary 7th.

Starting weight 185lbs

Weight today 182lbs.

Measurements: 41" waist and 41" around pelvic

OMGOSH!!!!!!!!! I hope that is a good thing. I lost 4inches off my waist and lost one off my pelvic. And lost 3lbs!!!!!!!!!!! And I didn't do much different this weekend. Except lots of fruit, veggies and water. Little sugar, and I didn't get much exercise in........

Congrats, that's awesome progress :hurray: Reducing the bad stuff and increasing the good stuff is what it's all about. Adding exercise to the mix and keeping up with the healthy eating and the results will keep on coming.

congrats on your progress :)

((hugs)) for your first post as I can so relate to that. I don't have children,I know though that they say things without thinking/realising what they are saying. I also think it is important for children to grow up with a positive view about body image, so probably shrugging it off was the best thing. I hate mirrors, especially at the swimming bath/gym..and any comment on my weight being bad I tend to swollow up! although luckily I havent had any for a while. But somehow we have to learn to ignore it as it isnt healthy to take in negative comments and although I guess some people may use them for motivation, for me it just makes me down and has the opposite affect. since i have started to exercise again,I have started to think a little bit more positive and think ok my weight is how it is, but other people are my size too, and bigger, and smaller. So I feel more normal. Then I think ok I look how I do now but I feel better knowing that I am doing something about it. :) your doing amazing already! :)

congrats on your progress thus far!! you are doing so great!! especially with a busy family and schedule.:)

I have a very similar weight goal, i am in the 180's right now and am going for 130's maybe 120's depending on how I look and feel at that weight.

i also have recently started a diary so please feel free to check it out!!! i look forward to watching you progress more and more!!! goodluck!
