Heather's Journal

Hey guys. I'm new to this site so i thought i'd give a little bit of background info before giving my workout. I have been a personal trainer and a yoga instructor for the past little over 2 years. I ran cross country and was a huge JROTC person while in high school and it was a big stress relief. however, i stopped after high school until i had a, well we'll just call it a painful run-in with an ex. Anyways, from that experience i ended up with 2 broken arms, screwwed up knee, and a few other things. Physical therapy sucked and i have nerve damage mostly in my left arm, but my right arm acts up every now and then as well. Anyways, working out gave me a way to feel good about myself and actually helped with my nerve damage believe it or not. I don't have to take my medicine for it every day anymore and it's amazing!!! So i love helping people reach their goals because when i realized it was my working out that helped with the damage, it was the best feeling ever and i wanted to get to the point where i didn't have to take my meds every day. Anyways, i hope this helps some of y'all with your workouts:

I usually work out at the gym few hours before my shift starts 4-5 days a week.

~Run anywhere between 3-5 miles every morning around where i live (depends on my mood and how my knee is feeling)
~Mondays/Thursdays: -Lat Raises: 12.5lbsx3 sets of 10
-Tri Press: 10lbsx3 sets of 10 (struggling to get past 10lbs on my left arm, right arm is ready to move on)
-Ab work: Regular sit-ups 70-80
Sides 40-50
Lower 30-40
~Tuesdays/Fridays: -Rows: 50lbsx5 (warm-up), 60lbsx2 sets of 10
-Hypers: 20lbsx20/25lbsx10/30lbsx5
-Ab work: (same as mondays and thursdays)
-Rope climb with friends (have a friend who is really working to get in shape, and last week was FINALLY able to get up the rope after 2 months of trying...super proud!!!)

Wow, that does not sound like a good experience... I'm sorry that happened to you!

Looking forward to following your journal :)

Few days later

So it's been a few days since i started my journal on here and i have to say, things are going pretty well. My most un-motivated client decided to become VERY motivated about losing weight and stop complaining every 2 seconds when she realized she has officially lost 50 lbs. THANK GOODNESS!!!!! *fingers crossed that it lasts?* Anyways, I am still stuck at 10lbs on my left arm during tricep presses, but after reviewing several of the books i have dealing with different workouts and such i've rearranged my workout a bit. I just got a tattoo done on my right leg so i can't do cardio for the week and have to be careful with the way i do ab work which will give me plenty of time to work and focus on getting past that 10 lb mark (please note, that i'm not trying to lose weight or bulk up or anything, just trying to stay toned, but the fit my arm is, the less problem i seem to have with the nerve damage) Anyways, so here is my workout schedule for the week:

Monday/Thursday:
Lat Raises-12.5lbsx2 sets of 10
Tri Press-10lbsx2 sets of 10
Ab work-V-sit with medicine ball (where you lay on your back and bring your feet up the same time bringing your arms up holding 10lb med. ball to form a U) ~till can't do anymore
-Lower/Lower side- ~totally having a blonde moment at the ..haha, moment and forgot what it's called. but you sit at the edge of the bench with your arms on your chest or grabbing the handle behind you (most sit up benches have it) and bring your legs up while twisting to the left side then bring back down, bring up twisting to the right and bringing back down (easier seen than explained)

Tuesday/Friday:
Rows-60lbsx3 sets of 10
Dumbbell Overhead press-will be my first day at it, so planning to start at roughly 10 lbs and go from there. Hopeing for 3-4 sets of at least 10
Ab work-Same as Monday/Thursday
~Unfortuntely Friday's is usually rope day as well, which i will miss out on this week :( Always next week though and i'll still be there for moral support

Anyways, i'll let y'all know how it goes :) wish me luck!!!

Well, the tattoo is pretty much healed up 100% so i'm finally able to start back running again and lower body work. :D super excited!!!! PLBFitness...i've looked around the forums and have found some helpful information definitely. I guess though getting the tattoo was the break i needed from the same old boring routine, so i managed to spice things up a bit because i wasn't able to run or do much lower body work because of my leg. I am however, very proud to say that i still haven't taken my medication for my arm and have a doctor's appointment in a few days...they want to see how everything is looking. So i guess we'll see how that goes :)

So...i just realized i haven't posted anything under my journal in a while. Things have been pretty hectic with everything going on with the holidays, its hard to keep up with the date half the time. Anyways, i have almost completely rearranged my workout including dropping tricep presses and adding in DB overhead presses instead, and have added plank rows into my workout as well. I do plan on going back to tricep presses at some point, but for now i'm happy with the way my workout is going. My boyfriend and I decided to do a 5K together come Februray to give him time to get ready...however, i think he's going to get his butt kicked in the race, due to the fact that he hasn't started training yet at all. Currently we're having a lot of issues anyways, but it's just more frusturation that can be taken out during my workouts :) After all, "No matter what is going on out in the real world, at the gym 50lbs will always be 50lbs and a mile will always be a mile"

It would really piss me off if my suffering is due to someone else's aggression or negligence. You are inspiring.

BTW I love yoga

Thanks :) It does really suck, but i have definitely come a long way and some days are better than others, but it is a constant reminder of what happened. I have been lucky enough to find a guy who accepts me even with what happend and is there on the bad days.

I really love teaching yoga!!

Its been a while since my last post. Like everyone else, things have been crazy due to the holidays. I ended up taking about a week off from working out because of how crazy things had gotten. My numbers suffered a little bit and i was starting to have pain coming back in my arms, reminding me just how important it is for me to keep up with my workouts. However, things are finally back on track and my numbers are back to where they were before my break. I have however, started adding squats to my workout routine on Tuesdays and Fridays (which are my least busiest workout days) Things have been going really good and i'm enjoying my new workout routine. Unfortunately it is looking like i may have to go back on my medication for the nerve damage again for a little while. But i'm hoping that if i just continue to push myself in the gym, then it wont be neccessary. Only time will tell.

Glad to hear you've been keeping up with the workouts! It's tough during the holidays, but worth it if you can stick to your plan :)

Just read your story, all I can say is wow! Very inspiring. Keep it up and you will be amazed at what you can do. Been doing the Martial Arts for many years, and I have injures as well, but I never let it stop me. Good job!! :biggrinsanta:
