Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read this.

I’m currently just under 28 stone and seem to be stuck in a rut after a month - which I just can’t get my head around.

I’ve gone from eating ridiculously bad lunches, snacks all day, sneaky McDonald’s on the way home and even worse teas, to eating slimming world friendly lunches and teas with fruit for snacks. I’ve ditched the 4 or 5 takeaways a week for one small takeaway every weekend or every fortnight. I’ve gone from drinking 15/20 pints and a bottle of spirits to 3 or 4 (sometimes 0) bottles of lager a week. I’ve even cut coffee out to save on milk!

Then on top of that I’ve gone from walking less than 1500 steps a day to over 10,000 (sometimes up to 16,000). I’ve even started doing small bursts of jogging!

I lost just over a stone in the first 3 weeks which I was pleased with. But in the 4th week, I’ve actually put weight on?!?! Nearly half a stone. Despite doing exactly the same. If anything, I actually did more exercise!

I just don’t understand how? What else can I do? Do you think it’s just a bad week and it’ll catch up next week? Feeling really demotivated seen as though I’ve got so long to go.

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Heather

Sounds like it´s just a weird week. Water weight most likely. Menstruation? Muscle aches? Ate something salty the night before your weigh-in? Didn´t eat/had a surprisingly big poop before your previous weigh-in?

Hormones are almost always a culprit. I know that when I have my period, I always am up a few pounds but then the next week its down. I get weighed every week at my TOPS meeting and here's what my chart looks often looks like when I am on a losing cycle (sometimes I get to plateau cycles):

lose-lose-lose-gain-lose-lose-lose-gain

The best think is to look at your overall weight difference every 4-weeks.

If you hit a plateau, which is basically being the same weight in a 4 week cycle despite maintaining your plan, then you need to trick your metabolism. I often do that by upping my calories for a week then lowering them back the next week. Seems to work well.

Hi again, Heather! Glad you came over here. I'll repost my original reply in the newcomers' thread, so you have the links re nutrition, cheers, Cate.
Hi, Heather. Well done on making the decision to take control of your health & well-being. Are you able to see a nutritionist? It's possible that you are not getting enough nutrition or the right nutrition.
There are various useful sites online for dietary guidelines. Some of these are-
https://www.eatforhealth.gov.au/guidelines/australian-guide-healthy-eating
https://www.choosemyplate.gov/
https://www.nutrition.org.uk/healthyliving/healthydiet/eatwell.html
I am not sure that many people come into this section of the forum. If you fancy starting a diary you will find a bunch of supportive people over the there. The link is https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/
Cheers, Cate.
